Tacos El Pastor 53 — Restaurant in Hyde Park Township

No. It's a hard no for me. I'm not upset at the prices. I see many complaining about the prices in their reviews but I never consider the prices concerning the food I eat unless it turns out to be disgusting. I only go off of the rating. This location has 5 stars so I thought the food would speak to this. The pastor wasn't authentic. It can't be cooked on the skewer with the pineapple packed between the meat like it should be. The pastor was so so with a weird taste I'm not used to. I've only tasted that taste at one other restaurant on the North side of Chicago that had downsized over on Ashland. It must be prepackaged from a whole seller because I can't comprehend how 2 restaurants on opposite sides of Chicago could achieve the same horrible tasting pastor tacos. The pineapples were as if they came out of a can versus marinated while searing on a skewer between the pastor meat. My thing is, just do it right. I wouldn't call this place Americanized nor authentic. Just something people without an authentic mexican spot to go to near them, might appreciate. Why are the chicken and steak similar to chunks out of the dog food cans? It's just too much wrong for this place to be right. My guy said the horchattas we ordered were really good. Best he's had. To begin for 3 steak tacos to be 17 dollars and change is insane let alone to give out old left over DRY meat that appears to have chicken mixed in. I live not even 5 blocks from the establishment and called my order in also started eating as soon I got it inside the car the food didn’t have any heat whatsoever the steak was DRY VERY cold even the shells straight out of a pack no heating just hard and cold then adding chips and guacamole for a total of 29.08 for 3 tacos dry cold and disgusting and some bull they call guacamole but was really just chunks of avocado and tomato’s in a bowl and a bag of cold chips terrible service upon arriving to pick up the last had me standing there about 10 mins as she gather all the uber and DoorDash orders from back instead of getting my order for me to get out of there so upon arriving home due to my disappointment I reached out to the restaurant with my dismay was told the meat was cold because it had sour cream on the taco and the manger will get in contact with me I do not recommend this place at all terrible food quality and...

JUNE 2024 UPDATE: I saw they serve cocktails so stopped in for dinner one evening. The Paloma is nice and strong, my favorite cocktail here. Had another hongo taco combo, horchata and decided to stay and beat the heat with a delicious mango margarita. It was SO big I almost couldn’t finish it with the generous combo portion sides!

The chips were really crisp, the pico was really fresh, the guac was nice and chunky, and the taco was exceptionally delicious- the flavor was outstanding chefs kiss and the horchata sweetly cooled down the heat from the yummy salsas. This is easily one of the best places for drinks and a bite to eat in the area ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
