We started eating here 12 years ago. We were always excited to eat here. It was a treat. However, over the past 3-4 years, food quality has been declining while prices have skyrocketed. The quality of the meats is horrible. Nowadays, it's like cheap Chinese food meat. The owners/managers are simply exploiting long-time patrons. Many local families have a tradition - a history - of going to this restaurant. So it has become like Disney World ... Great memories but terrible food and exploitative prices. Two examples ... tonight my daughter got the kids meal which was $6. She is 10 years old and received enough food for a 4-year-old. Her cheese enchilada was literally one 6-in tortilla, folded in half, with cheese in it. It wasn't two tortillas with ingredients in between. It was one 6-in tortilla folded in half with one slice of cheese inside. In addition she got 25 cents worth of french fries. Less than a small fry at McDonald's. I do think her drink was included. Not only was this a tiny amount of food but it was garbage food. Imaging feeding your kids dinner and giving them $16 tortilla with a slice of American cheese inside and a small handful of french fries. Then imagine paying 1,000% more for it at a restaurant.
I ordered the Chiles Colorado. First time. At other restaurants, this is chunks of beef that have been simmered in a red chili sauce. At Puerta Vallarta it was minced up meat swimming in red chili sauce. It was robably 50 cents worth of ingredients and it was accompanied by 25 cents worth of rice and 25 cents worth of refried beans. Additionally I received three 6-in tortillas. It cost $12 or $13. If your child was served this as a school lunch you would be outraged. The main entree was basically gruel and no one could have identified it if they hadn't ordered it. I realize that part of eating at a restaurant is the atmosphere and the fact that the food is prepared for us. I don't mind paying a 300% upcharge for food and even a 300% upcharge for a beer. But my dinner was probably a 900% upcharge versus the cost of the food itself. The restaurant charges almost $3 for a soft drink ... 50% soda & 50% ice. Maybe 20 cents cost to them? Free refills though.
The "queso" send more like leche.
Most meals are at least $10.99- $$16.99. Some are $20.00+. Other than something like sliced avocado, most ingredients are low quality, cheap and relatively unhealthy. Recently ate at El Nopal and had a much better experience. Larger portions, better quality and a bit less expensive. I didn't...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place is ignorant of ADA law regarding people with disabilities. I have a service dog (SD) for a non-visible disability and I had a horrible experience this past Saturday here. As soon as I walked in the door, all of the staff (about 3) immediately started talking to each other in very loud voices and called a manager over who very angerly demanded that I show her paperwork. I states "Ma'am he is my service dog trained to alert to my medical condition." She said, "No papers? You can't bring him." I tried to explain, that federal law does not require papers for service dogs, but she insisted, so I gave her a card explaining the service dog laws and advised her to contact the regional ADA office for further questions.
She grudgingly gave us a seat, but it was in a far corner away from other customers, they brought us broken chips and super hot salsa. When I asked if they had mild salsa, the waiter sarcastically said "Sure." Our food was brought out very fast and was very tasty, however it was sort of tossed in front of us like we had the plague.
During all of this, my SD was under control, well-behaved, and when we got our seat was lying down under the table and not in any customer or staff member's way. Prior to this incident we had been in this restaurant 3 times in 2024. My SD never behaved poorly or in a manner that would have given this business any reason to act this way towards me. The staff even had commented on how well behaved he was.
I am providing photos of some of the Indiana Code regarding service dogs in hopes that management of this facility will see it and educate themselves and staff to keep this from happening to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreYeah, never again actually. We got there around 8pm last night, 2.5 hours until closing, our waitress was incredibly rude, asking us āwhat do you wantā one minute after sitting down š I was trying to read the menu and she sat drinks, chips and queso all down on my menu as Iām reading it š my 14 year old daughter asked me why she was being so rude and huffing as we were finally ordering. End of meal she bring out check and as Iām dipping a chip and in MID BITE sheās waving the receipt in my face to grab it, figured she might want to put it down on my plate since she was putting everything else right in front me lol. She refused to put it down, so I awkwardly grab the receipt with my other hand as I continue to stuff a chip on my face and at that point I just slammed the receipt down on the table in the big empty open space she could have set it down at š Then she must have went around the corner and said something to her fellow employees because two men came around the corner and looked over the booth at us š it was all extremely rushed and kinda awkward in there. When we walked in my nephew had a hard time pulling the double doors open so I opened them and they sat at the front stared at us and laughed š¤ Not worth it. Not expensive, standard mediocre Mexican food with some...
