Food is still good, decline in service is shocking. Go at your own risk.
I had eaten Indian food for years but did not know of South Indian cuisine until I worked at an office near Amaravati 4 years ago, and my colleagues took me there for lunch. I was immediately drawn to the highly seasoned cooking and went back often, telling all my friends about it.
I live 20 miles away and am usually not in Irving, so I hadn't been to Amaravati in about 3 years. I went back today for lunch.
The food was as good as I remember it. The falloff in service is absolutely shocking. It's just not the same place. I'm not sure when I'll be back.
Previously, I would walk in around lunchtime, wait at the door to be seated, and be shown to a table by a polite staff member who would bring water, napkins, and tableware to my table while I went to the buffet. When I was done, another staff member would be waiting near a counter next to the door to the kitchen to take my payment. It was always busy, but the place was clean, efficient, and well run.
Not any more. I checked online today before I went, and it said "Open," so it never occurred to me that that didn't include the buffet. I arrived there at 11:22. The sign at the door still says "Please wait to be seated," so I did. No one ever showed up, acknowledged me in any way, or even looked in my direction. Finally, a restaurant patron asked what I wanted, and when I told him, he pointed to a new door that had been opened in a wall since I had been there last, and said I must go through there and tell them I wanted the buffet.
I went through the door into the next room, which seems to be a little space where people wait in line to order breakfast and eat it there. I started to wait in line, but another restaurant patron told me I didn't need to wait in line to simply tell them I wanted the buffet but to just go forward and say so. I had trouble getting the staff at the counter to acknowledge me, until yet another restaurant patron told me I wanted the buffet. They told me it wasn't open until noon. It was then 11:35.
I went back to the main dining room to wait. The place was not very clean. Tables were not bussed, discarded cups and napkins were on the floor, and some tables had small food fragments on them, including mine. My napkin dispenser was empty. The counter where you used to pay was deserted and had a plastic sheet pulled down over it.
The young man who was setting up the buffet came and got my napkin dispenser and took it way without a word. Later, I had to ask him three times to return it, with some napkins.
Around noon, another restaurant patron went up to the young man who was setting up the buffet and told him I had been waiting a while. The young man held up his hand in a signal to say "Five minutes." In fact, the buffet did not open until 12:17.
I went there and loaded up a plate. There was no tableware. I asked several customers if they knew where it might be, and no one knew. Finally, the young restaurant worker came out and put some in place. He also brought napkins to my table, after I had asked him 3 times. He never brought water, nor did any other restaurant staff member.
The food was very, very good, as it always is, but by the time I sat down to eat it, it was cooling off noticeably. When I went and got a second plate, after finishing the first, the food was now quite warm, to my surprise.
This place used to be clean, professional, and well run. Now, it has gone way down. The staff seem to be overwhelmed and unable to run a restaurant of that type. You will note that my whole experience today consisted of having to be "rescued" by other restaurant customers who would inform the heedless staff that I was being ignored.
I did get the food I came for--heaping plates of tasty, amply-spiced South Indian food. But service is a joke. It will be a very long time before I drive 20 miles to...

DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU WANT TO MAKE JUSTICE FOR THE MONEY YOU SPEND.
Unfortunately, we picked this place for dinner on my birthday. We went to the Amaravati restaurant and the ambience was pretty good. When we got the menus, we asked the server about the best chicken dishes we can get here. HE said “our Chettinad chicken and Amaravati Chicken curry-Chefs special are best here’. So we picked those 2 curries with few nan and 1 boneless chicken biryani for the order. It took 30 min to get the order. The order arrived. When we first tasted the Amaravati chicken curry, it was very sour and tangy. Assuming this is how the dish is we moved to Chettinad chicken. It tasted exactly the same. We are sure about how the Chettinad Chicken tastes like. We were really pissed off and asked the waiter if the actual taste of the curry is like that. He said” it’s not how it tastes like- I will take it back and bring the new one’. In next 5 min, he got the curry bowls with same curry. The person (SO CALLED Assistant CHEF) added pepper in an effort to balance the sour and tanginess of the curry. In spite of HER worst efforts, both the curries tasted the same. We left them untouched after tasting both of them. We then decided to taste biryani. The biryani was drenched in salt. To balance the taste we tried to add raitha, which has more salt than in biryani.
We were complety annoyed and decided to talk to the chef and the manager.
HERE COMES THE INTERESTING PART
The main chef was not in restaurant. The woman so called assistant chef tried to make the curries which tasted same, though they are different. Even the manager was not in the restaurant. We paid 48$ for the food we could not/did not eat. The only person who tried his best to help is one of the 2 servers named Krishna. Thanks Krishna. I do not want to abuse the other server who took the order and got us back the same food. He felt this is not his job and was not at all concerned about the customers.
With all respect, I feel bad for Non-Indians who do not have knowledge of how the particular curry tastes like- they can get a wrong opinion of the dishes they eat here (though it taste sour/spicy/sweet/worst-they might think that’s how the this particular curry tastes like).
Anyways, it is a great effort to run a restaurant without a chef. Keep up the good work. You will not run...

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I recently visited Amaravati Indian Restaurant on N MacArthur Blvd in Irving TX and overall it was a delightful experience. The restaurant offers a wide variety of authentic Indian dishes and has a warm and inviting ambiance. While there were a few minor drawbacks they did not overshadow the delicious food and excellent service.
First and foremost I must commend the restaurant on the quality and taste of their food. The menu features a diverse range of dishes from different regions of India allowing customers to explore and indulge in various flavors. The flavors were rich and well-balanced and the ingredients used were fresh adding to the overall quality of the dishes. I particularly enjoyed their butter chicken and biryani which were both perfectly seasoned and full of aromatic spices.
The service at Amaravati Indian Restaurant was attentive and friendly. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and provided helpful suggestions when deciding what to order. They were prompt in taking orders and ensuring that our dining experience was enjoyable. The waitstaff also made sure to check on us to see if we needed anything throughout the meal which was a nice touch.
Though the overall experience was great there were a couple of minor drawbacks worth mentioning. Firstly the restaurant can get quite busy during peak hours resulting in longer wait times for a table. However once seated the service was efficient and our food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. Additionally the noise level could be a bit high making it slightly challenging to have a conversation without raising your voice.
Pricing at Amaravati Indian Restaurant is reasonable considering the quality and portion sizes. The menu offers options for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians catering to a wider range of dietary preferences. The restaurant also provides takeout and delivery options which is convenient for those with busy schedules.
Overall I highly recommend Amaravati Indian Restaurant for anyone craving authentic Indian cuisine in the Irving area. With their flavorful dishes attentive service and reasonable prices it's a great choice for both casual outings and special occasions. Despite the minor drawbacks mentioned the overall experience was fantastic and I will definitely be...
