As you know if you have read any of my other reviews, I tend to use four stars as the top score, leaving 5 stars for only the Extremely Best of the Best, and allowing room for improvement in the case of favorite locations.
I discovered Zeytin quite by accident whilst manning the phones in March of '022 at the KATH 910 AM Share-a-thon, during which we were treated to their gyro plate for lunch. It was all very good, but something was uniquely good about the rice.
Since that day, I had tried a different Mediterranean restaurant on the other side of Dallas, trying to find something closer to home that measured up to the Zeytin recipe, but to no avail.
So the next time I was recording voiceovers at the station, I decided to go there for lunch. To my horror, there was a sign on the door saying they were closed for a private event. Upon the arrival of a lady picking up a food delivery, we both approached the door and knocked.
To my pleasant surprise, after telling the owner I was from across town and that I had learned of their amazing food via KATH, he invited me in and had the kitchen make me up a gyro plate, and he proceeded to charge me nothing for it!
That's what I call 5-star service, and you can be sure I will return there for lunch every time I'm on that side of town.
I got home and enjoyed that amazing meal under my own roof and the experience was completely as amazing...
Read moreThe best Turkish/Mediterranean restaurant in the DFW. I was in need of a restaurant that would cater to a vast majority of my vegan family. Our last minute order (around store closing time) on the catering menu consist of: Dolma -24 pieces Falafel - 24 pieces Hummus (Tray) Fresh Baked Home made Pita - 24 pieces Coban Salad (Tray)- Chicken Shawarma 2lbs Chicken Shish Kebap ( 10 skewers) Rice pudding (Tray) Baklava w/Walnut 10piece
However, despite the last minute large order, the owners were well accommodating and were able to prepare it as soon as the store opened following day. The food was divine!!! Chicken kebap and shawarma was flavorful with a hint of smokiness and cooked spot on. The dolma was exceptional with a well balanced mixture of spices. The Coban salad was my favorite. The cucumbers, tomatoes, onions and herbs were proportionate without being heavily drowned in the vinaigrette dressing. My brother scarfed down the Baklava. So, I’d rate it a 10/10 on his behalf. Overall, everything on my order exceeded my expectations. My family enjoyed the food to the extent of being miserable from over eating, but overly satisfied at the same time. We will be...
Read moreTried the gyro wrap combo that came with fries and a drink for lunch. This wrap is a giant, like the size of a burrito named after a type of pepper. There is a lot of meat, and just the right amount of sauce, onion and tomato on it. The pita was warm, soft and fluffy and had a slight chargrilled taste that makes it very good. The fries were a miss, they were served cold and soggy and did not have any flavor so I discarded them. I’d recommend some seasoning, sea salt or maybe substituting rice or chips instead. The hummus appetizer is very good and comes with three pieces of thin, crispy pita that they bake themselves in house. I ordered an additional side of tzatziki sauce and the one I received was heavy on the dill and lemon flavor. It did not allow the cucumber to shine through. I know there are regional variations and this was good though, but did not taste the same as what was on my gyro. That’s ok, I think it would have overpowered the feta flavor that was on my gyro. I’d recommend this spot for lunch. A wrap, side and to go...
