We arrived our first time on Vieques island and met up with a friend who lives on the island. She insisted we all travel to Taverna for dinner with our kids and parents. It was a large group (6 adults and 3 kids). We arrived and said hi we’d like a table. The waitress was so rude to us, we were shocked. She made a huge deal about us not having a reservation. We said no problem but we don’t mind splitting up into two or even three tables. She admitted she had 4 free tables. She huffed around and three times complained that this was very difficult to set up two tables, one with 5 seats. I said I’m sorry this was last minute on our part and we just arrived here. She looked at me and said “no I saw you arrive on the same plane as me, so you had the time to make a reservation.” We sat down and she continued to be rude. We asked her about items we had been shown to us in photos by our friend. She said “oh those must be specials and our special today is lasagna. Oh but we are out of it.” We just walked out. Read moreThe Tavern restaurant is a true hidden gem that deserves all the praise it can get. From the moment you step through the unassuming entrance, you're transported to a charming, intimate setting. My husband and I asked for shrimp alfredo and a greek salad both plates were simply outstanding. The dessert was out of this world bourbon brandy pudding.
The service was attentive and friendly, with the staff clearly taking pride in sharing the best of what the Tavern has to offer.

Read moreLoved Taverna so much we ate here 3 of our 6 nights on the island! Really friendly and efficient staff even on a busy night. Wine and cocktails from the bar were cold and delicious. Food came out hot and at a nice pace. We LOVED the Greek salad (so much that I saved the plate so I could dip my bread in the dressing!) and pasta dishes we had, especially the picatta and chicken Parmesan. And the lemon creme brûlée was out of this world! Some of the best Italian food we’ve had anywhere, and who would have thought it would be on a tiny island in the middle of the Caribbean! Wish we could eat here once a week, not once...
