Decided to order takeout for a family gathering. Someone ordered a side of Mac and cheese and said it was spicy, which he didn’t want and the description doesn’t give a reason for it to be spicy. But otherwise everyone enjoyed their food - we ordered chicken bowls, nachos, a steak quesadilla, and tacos. I ordered both the birria tacos and southwest hot chicken tacos for myself because I couldn’t decide. Then once I tasted one of each, still didn’t really know which I enjoyed better! (Birria may have edged out the chicken just because the corn and black beans look like they are from a can. But I like the chipotle sauce on the sw chicken.) Had the leftovers for a snack today! I wouldn’t say this felt like true Mexican food - but for a takeout place with different flavors from both your average American dining and your chipotle/Qdoba, it was really tasty, and we will likely go again. Family members picked up the takeout, which was ready in a timely fashion, and labeled clearly. It was a little confusing for them getting into the parking lot, finding spots allowing parking for this business, and walking back around to the front door. Reviews are better with pictures but we forgot to take any, we couldn’t...
Read moreFrom the moment I stepped into Al Tacos Locos, I knew I was in for a treat. This place isn't just serving up tacos; they're crafting an experience. And let me tell you, it's an experience worth savoring.
First off, the food is simply phenomenal. Their birria tacos were great! Every bite was a little piece of heaven.
But for me, the real star of the show is their house-made hot sauce. Goodness, this stuff is liquid gold. It's not just about the heat (though it definitely has a kick); it's the flavor. It's complex, with layers of smoky, savory, and tangy notes that complement the food perfectly. I could put it on everything. It elevates everything on the menu from delicious to absolutely divine. I even asked if they sell it by the bottle!
The service was also great. The staff was friendly, helpful, and clearly passionate about their food. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, perfect for a quick lunch or a relaxed dinner. Just be sure to ask for extra hot sauce – you won't regret it! This place has earned a permanent spot on my list of favorite...
Read moreThe food is just really bad. We ordered nachos with chicken, birria tacos, and a steak bowl.
The steak was so hard, my jaw hurts now. It was like the leather was still on it, like the cow wasn't skinned. The steak bowl also had three other ingredients - lettuce and tomatoes, which were fine, and wet corn that somehow wasn't.
The birria tacos came with a tiny amount of sauce, like a ketchup packet amount, I also think it might have contained soy sauce. The tacos weren't good, the tortillas were soggy and not pan-fried. Best way to describe the steak and spice level - imagine an unseasoned steak that was marinating in water for a while and began to decompose kind of.
There was something nostalgic about the nachos. The nachos tasted like nachos from high school in Philadelphia, because they had cheese whiz on them... The nachos also had lettuce, tomato, and weird corn, just like the beef bowl. There were four cubes of chicken on top that were similarly textured to the leather jerky steak from the bowl, except made of chicken...
