Hey, fellow food enthusiasts! As we approach the threshold of the new year, it's that time when we grant ourselves a glorious cheat day, a gastronomic farewell to indulgence before we embark on the noble quest of New Year's resolutions. December 30th, a day for culinary camaraderie, beckons us to the timeless haven of all-day breakfast delights—a true Philly classic.
Navigating the vibrant pulse of West Ave. Grill, a culinary sanctuary in Jenkintown, is a tradition my friends and I have upheld since the 2010s. Even amid the pandemic, this establishment has stood resilient, retaining its popularity and charm. Beware, though; the weekends here are a bustling affair, teeming with early risers and afternoon adventurers.
For those in the vicinity, the siren call of their cheat day menu is irresistible. I surrendered to the allure of the crispy chicken sandwich—a symphony of flavors with sriracha mayo, slaw, and pickles. It was so divine that I had to save some for later, and lo and behold, even hours afterward, the taste remained a testament to culinary mastery. The signature burger, proudly adorned with the West Ave. Grill logo, was not just a feast for the palate but also a visual delight.
Wise calorie-conscious choices led us to substitute sides with a refreshing side salad, a hopeful gesture toward our impending resolutions. My friend, opting for the signature burger, declared it a triumph. Stepping away from the usual suspects of waffle fries and potato fries, we indulged in a shareable extravaganza—the crab and waffle fries combo. Its name eludes memory, but the taste lingers, making it the perfect prelude to the New Year.
Originally planning a post-feast jog along the nearby trail, our ambitions were thwarted by the rain. Nevertheless, if you're in the area, seeking respite on your fitness journey and craving that one memorable cheat meal, West Ave. Grill is the destination. A caveat: be prepared for paid parking, either with cash or a credit card, as the lot is shared with other culinary gems. Additionally, the limited seating and lone bathroom may slightly dampen the ambiance, but the overall experience is worth it.
As the year draws to a close, this Philly favorite stands as a culinary sanctuary, beckoning those who have weathered the storms of the past year. Stress be gone, indulge, revel, and let the West Ave. Grill be your refuge—a testament to tradition, resilience, and, of course, unabashed gastronomic joy. Cheers to a flavorful farewell to the old and a delicious...
Read moreCame to visit for a second time last Monday for brunch and sat outdoors. I ordered shrimp and grits- my meal was delicious until I found a short piece of hair in my dish as I was finishing. I discreetly noticed my waiter. He then sent his manager Jared out. Jared had a cold nonchalant attitude. He says “well I see you enjoyed your food haha where is the hair?” As if my issue didn’t matter because I already ate most of the food. I came to your restaurant because I was hungry, I didn’t know I had to inspect my food for hair before eating. His whole demeanor made me very uncomfortable. He wasn’t apologetic at all! He took $8 off my bill and didn’t even offer a remake. Not that I would have wanted it remade but it’s still the principle. He made it as if I just wanted free food lol smh. He handled the situation in a nasty-nice manner. On top of that, everyone sitting outside was swarmed by bees the entire time. A waitress came over to the table next to me covering up their syrup bottles as we know bees are attracted to sweet smells. When that didn’t help she started spraying cleaning solution at the bees while customers were sitting there eating:/ she then sees me shooing bees away and comes over to my table. A bee landed on my orange juice — she just shooed it away. Without offering me a new OJ or anything. After my interaction with Jared I didn’t even make a fuss about it. I kindly paid my bill as I intended to do when I took myself out to eat. The whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth, literally! I can’t help but to think how this would have played out if I wasn’t a black woman. Not sure if I’ll be back. Very...
Read moreWent here for brunch with friends. We had to wait for our entire party to arrive to be seated, which was totally fine. By the time our whole party arrived, they were on a wait-list (45 mins) -- we were made aware we were number 2 on the wait-list (also, fine.) We sat outside and chatted with our friends. An hour passed and we still weren't seated (again, fine, it was busy). My husband went inside and asked for an update and the hostess told him we had to wait a bit longer because there was call-ahead seating and those people were going to be seated before us. I strongly believe after working in the food industry for years that this is simply unacceptable. We were not made aware of call-ahead (or else we would have called ahead!!) I think it's pretty unfair to bump people who have been waiting for a table for over an hour AT THE RESTAURANT to be bumped because there were people who called ahead. We sat down and enjoyed our meal, but that experience before the meal left a pretty bad taste in our mouth. Also beware they charge you for coffee refills, but it is not stated anywhere on the menu, not did our waitress tell us it cost $ for refills. I also wouldn't be complaining about the coffee, but it was $4 for a pretty small mug. All in all, good experience, but maybe change the call-ahead/wait-list "rules". Or at least make it more clear to the people literally waiting outside that they'll be bumped by people who...
