The food is great. Service is generally good. They say “Welcome home” when you walk through the door. Which is a very nice touch. It makes the place inviting. Jalil the server has great energy. The place is small. You can see the cooking space from the front door. Because the place is so small you can sometimes hear the conflict between staff. Usually the owner yelling at someone for something. I get the feeling that the staff is scared to say anything to her. Most days this behavior will not spill over into your experience. There is a homemade ginger ale that I love. It’s definitely not your bottle of store brought ginger ale so be mindful of that when ordering it. I love it and usually get 2 glasses. That being said it is handmade so can vary drastically if not prepared correctly. Unfortunately today my glass was horrible and owner did not handle the fact that I didn’t like it very well. The server looked afraid to speak to the owner. Honestly I’m not sure how things went left so quickly. The simple solution to me would have been to offer to make a fresh cup. Instead I was charged and not offered as much as a glass of orange juice to replace it. When I asked to speak to the owner I was told she’s cooking and can’t stop. I replied I was ok with waiting (dog was being groomed in the area so I had time to sit). I could se the owner waving her hands in the air as she spoke to the server. The owner then instructed the server to “offer” me a refund. I said no I wanted to speak to her. She finally took the 10 steps to walk the vet to my table and explain why she can’t offer refunds to everyone. The owner prospective was she can’t offer refunds simply because someone doesn’t like something. Keep in mind that I order 1-2 cups of this each time I go. I don’t care much about the refund but I do care about the service I receive in any establishment. I will miss Jalil and the homemade ginger ale. I have no plan to...
Read moreI didn’t have the best experience at this restaurant. I was very excited to try a new black owned business in the area. We were greeted by a nice waiter who tried to accommodate our party of three at a original table of 2. Once our third party came, a woman came to our table to “scold” us about sitting at a 2 person table with 3 people. She said we should have waited for a bigger table to be ready. If that was the policy she should have communicated that with her staff (who seated us), not us. We are the customers, the conversation didn’t have anything to do with us. We didn’t seat ourselves. We moved to a table of 4, once it was ready. When my food arrived the waffle was completely burnt on the bottom and it was not edible. They made me a new waffle and it had more air in it than batter. As soon as I touched it, the waffle completely disintegrated into crumbs. When asked how our experience was, I was very honest with my disappointment of the waffle. The response I received was, “that’s a first.” There was no apology or alternatives given. As we paid our bill and was preparing to leave, we were rushed out of the restaurant. We were told there was another party of 4 waiting to be seated. There is a right and wrong way to treat customers and I didn’t feel valued at this establishment. The saving grace were the grits. They were very good and I wish I ordered those. I truly hope they are able to work out the “kinks.” In order to have a long lasting business, you need to have good food AND...
Read moreAn impromptu brunch suggested by my bestie led us to Welcome Home Cafe on Tuesday June 3rd. We were welcomed by Ms Stephanie and greeted by our server, Ms Lisa. Both were amazing. I thought I would just have coffee, but I’m a sucker for a “ great menu”. Bestie and I started with the Beets & Berries smoothie….Perfecto. I settled on the Salmon BLT w/ Avocado and bestie ordered the Loaded Cajun Sweet Potato , Kale Caesar salad and later the Ginger Lemon Mint iced tea. Everything was absolutely delicious. I’ve had Salmon sandwiches at other places that were tough pieces of overcooked salmon meat BUT Welcome Home Cafes Salmon BLT was fresh, tender salmon with gently prepared Turkey bacon all on a Brioche roll. Hands down, the best salmon sandwich I’ve ever had! I also sampled the Loaded Sweet Potato w/ jerk chicken and pineapple mango, that Jawn was slammin’ yeah, another “ hands down “ winner. Oh, the the lemon, ginger, mint tea was a welcome refreshing balanced drink. As we ate I watched some of the plates coming front the kitchen, the one that caught my eye was the “ grilled vegetable sandwich “. That’s for my next visit. The atmosphere warm friendly and actually felt like being at a “ good” friends place. It’s a hidden gem in Jenkintown, I’m so happy that bestie suggested going AND that I don’t live far....
