Velvet Sky Bakery — Restaurant in Jenkintown

This is the first review I have ever written. As a person that has a sweet tooth, I just had to let others know how bad my experience was with this place. My husband surprised me with a little 8 in diameter cake and 24 cupcakes for my birthday. When I saw the cake at my party, I was pleased...everything looked great. However, when I started to cut the cake, I noticed the fondant was not sticking to the cake...but I was still excited to eat it because it looked good. When I took the first bite, I was soooo disappointed! The cake was EXTREMELY dry, bland, and stale tasting. The icing wasn't bad, but the cake part of the cake and cupcakes was awful! No one at the party liked the cake or cupcakes...we couldn't even give it away! The next day, I called and spoke to the manager. I told her how bad the cake and cupcakes were and asked if everything was fresh. The manager told me the cake is made 1 - 2 days in advance and the cupcakes were made fresh daily. However, the cupcakes and cake were equally dry and stale tasting. I offered to drive the leftovers to the bakery repeatedly to prove my point but the manager didn't want to see the leftovers. A few days later, the manager called me back and said they stand by their product and offered me a gift card. The gesture was nice, but I declined because if a bakery can't make a decent cupcake, I highly doubt anything else would be good. And by the way, my husband paid $180 for a little cake, 24 cupcakes, and a cardboard cupcake stand. Don't waste your money, go to Sam's Club or Giant. If you still decide to try this place, go taste something first and ask that your items be made fresh, not...

Staff and owner are very nice but I can’t rate the product because I still have to pick up my cake. I will edit my review after I receive my order and taste it but so far it seems like the place to go. I didn’t give the review one star because it doesn’t deserve that!! This is my second time buying a cake from Velvet Sky, and I must say that Jordan really does a Great job designing a cake but the cake itself is TRASH!! I Could get a better tasting cake from a thrift shop that sells day old cakes and pastries!! I ordered a Coconut layer cake for my birthday and Jordan’s idea for that was a stale cake with a bunch of frosting with Coconut shavings on it!!! What a joke!! I wish that I could take her to small claims court for my $100, but it just isn’t worth the aggravation but I know this I would never buy anything else from Velvet Sky, and I’m going to tell everybody I know how HORRIBLE VELVET SKY CAKES ARE!! And anyone reading this Please Don’t Waste Your Time Or Money on a cake from Velvet Sky, and if you do I guarantee you’ll say “I should’ve listened to the person who wrote this review!!!! Last minute order was more perfect than I could have asked for! We had a small family “wedding” party that was supposed to be at a grand venue, but was impossible due to Covid restrictions. I wanted to make it special so I called Velvet Sky based on the pictures from their website. Soooo glad that I did — and — I found my “forever” bakery!!!! This was my first order with them and I can say that they won me over for sure! They will be my go-to bakery for special events and even when I just need to feed my sweet tooth. I ordered a small cake and 30 cupcakes. Our guests were all raving about them and all asked “where did you get THAT cake and THOSE cupcakes?!!!” Jordan did EXACTLY what I asked for - a simple and elegant cake….it was absolutely stunning!!!
