Got takeout here and was very disappointed. Food quality was okay but every dish was severely lacking for the price. The TLAC (Turkey, Lettuce, Avocado, and Cheese), which came with no sides, had a single slice of meat and cheese and barely any avocado. The bread we selected was brioche, and we were given a sandwich between VERY small pieces of stale bread. The Devils Pancakes were comical. The menu describes them as homemade pancakes with Nutella, fresh strawberry, blueberry, and banana. The pancakes were thin with Nutella spread on top, but had nothing inside. On top of the stack, there were a few banana slices, half a cut up strawberry, and 4 blueberries. With the number of great American brunch places in Jersey City, there is absolutely no way to justify going to Beechwood Cafe for any reason.

Update: Yet another weird customer service experience today, so again, despite liking the food, was not able to enjoy it... We sat down and I politely asked if it would be at all possible to change the music, which was super loud Spanish music. We were aggressively told by the server, "No, it's my music." Confused/ not sure I had heard correctly, I asked whose music it was-- perhaps management had selected a playlist? The server said, "It's Christian music and it's absolutely not going anywhere." I responded back, "But all of your patrons may not be Christian," and he responded, "It doesn't matter." The responses were all so aggressive that the person who was with me got upset, almost to the point of tears, and no longer felt comfortable being served by this person, so we just left... No longer a regular, which I see I was last time I posted a review, and don't really feel motivated to come back, obviously...

The food is decent but have had a lot of frustrating experiences with customer service. For example, more than once, I call ahead of coming in, and when I get there with my whole family, they say they've closed early. Today, they refused to let me sit at the bar seat near the window while a table freed up from the waiting list-- even though they said they are not seating other ppl. in the bar seat. They said I could either sit at that bar seat OR just stand around while a table freed up, but not sit in the bar seat and wait for a table there. How does that make sense if they're not even using the bar seat? Also I'm a regular--but they can't let me sit in a seat they're not using...

I came here with friends during a busy Saturday brunch shift. We waited about 15 minutes for a table of four but the staff was friendly and accommodating. The food was just okay. Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing but I usually judge a breakfast/brunch spot on how well they can make an omelette, and omelettes are usually one of the healthier choices of the menu.

I wasn't thrilled about their standard options but there was a "build your own" section on the menu so I ordered a simple feta cheese and spinach one. When it arrived, it was a dark golden brown on the outside which is almost never a good sign. As suspected, the eggs were overcooked and rubbery. Even stranger, though, was that the feta and spinach were not Incorporated into the omelette at all. They just had the egg wrapped around them like soft taco and the spinach was raw and the cheese was barely above room temperature in large cubes.

The whole thing along with the toast was just warmish and clearly had been sitting around while the other dishes at the table were prepared.

Speaking of, one of my table mates ordered "corned beef hash" with poached eggs but what arrived was some skilled fried strips of corned beef, a side of home fries and the eggs. That's not what corned beef hash is and he noted this to the server. The other two guests that the table ordered the Louisiana farm plate, I think it was, and it came with fried chicken and drop biscuits and their dishes both look very good. Clearly this is the specialty area of this place.

The atmosphere overall was fun and hip but I will not be rushing back...

I’ve been coming to Beechwood for awhile now but we just had the WORST and most WILD experience. We were seated outside on the side of the building. It’s busy there as always and we waited and waited for service. Waiters were helping tables 3 feet away from us but didn’t even look our way. I finally went inside and the hostess came over and when I asked for a waiter she just said oh i can take your order. Our hope was the waiter would eventually come over and the hostess would send them over…standard fare, no? NO. It took 15 minutes to get coffee and when our food finally came it was ice cold. No waiter came over at any point during this experience. I went inside a second time to ask if a waiter would ever come over. Finally a server comes over and she says “hi what’s the problem with your food? I’m coming over because all the servers are busy.” I was like lol so everyone’s too busy to serve this table? The audacity. She then tried to charge us for our coffee after this ordeal. No one was solution oriented. The hostess while very sweet had absolutely no clue what was going on or how to manage anything. Why didn’t you immediately flag to the servers that we were there? Why didn’t she bring the manager when we asked to see them? We just got up and left.

I’m so disappointed because I like the food but not sure we can go back. I’ll be calling the manager because they should know what’s happening on the day to day. If you go, never ever sit on the side of the outside. You will be completely ignored. The one saving grace were the bus boys who came over to...
