A must for any house party!!
We ordered catering trays for a birthday party with 30 guests. We worked directly with the owner Wissam to custom curate the dishes and Wissam was so so helpful through out the process, right from sitting down with us to discuss the menu to ensuring the food was ready well within time for the pickup. He was always available on text and phone and super responsive.
We ordered the Muhammara and Babaganoush as appetizers, the Chicken Shawarma platters and Mousaka Viggie trays for main course and a tray of the Baklava as the dessert. Uncle Momo's Muhammara is the best Muhammara we have eaten in the New York/NJ area. Granted Mediterranean food is having a moment in NYC and being residents here we routinely try all new restaurants that open up here but no one has come close to serving a Muhammara as good as Uncle Momo's. Wissam added a large number of freshly baked pita breads to be enjoyed with the cold appetizers and our guests just loved it. Everything else was super tasty and the Chcken Shawarma over spice rice was an instant hit with all our guests. The chicken was cooked to perfection and was still so juicy with minimal oil, something that is not easy to pull off with Shawarmas without lacing it with oil. The eggplant Mousaka was baked and spiced to perfection. The Baklava was baked in Ghee and was an absolute delight to top of a very sumptuous and tasty meal.
Wissam pays great attention to detail. The food was perfectly wrapped in individual trays. Wissam added a tray of spicy sumac onions, cucumber pickles and hot sauces as accompaniments to the order. I am sharing pictures of the Muhammara and the Babaganoush! I really wish we had taken pictures of the main course too to show you what an amazing job the team had done to pack everything. The pricing for the catering menu is perfect. Be sure to give this restaurant a try for your next Mediterranean dinner or house party and you will not regret your decision at all!!
THANK YOU team Uncle Momo!!! We are your customers for life and wish you...

My husband, our 1-year-old, and I arrived on a Friday at 6PM. The restaurant was more than half empty. I politely asked for a table, and the staff told us to sit inside which was right next to the kitchen, where it was uncomfortably hot. I suggested we just take a two-top outside in the mouse house aka pergola totally out of the way for a quick meal, no fuss. The response? An eye roll and a reluctant “fine.” They claimed those tables were reserved, but spoiler: an hour later, not a single one was taken. Total lie.
We then asked for a high chair. Three different staff members said they’d bring one. No one ever did. What followed was 45 minutes of being completely ignored while waiters served every table around us. No water, no menus, no acknowledgment that we even existed unless we flagged someone down again to ask, once more, for the high chair that never came.
Eventually, we left frustrated, hungry, and completely disrespected. We had limited time before bedtime and hoped for a quick meal. Instead, we spent our Friday evening standing around like we were invisible.
This whole neighborhood is filled with young families, how is a restaurant this indifferent to parents and small children? We weren’t asking for special treatment just basic decency!
A quick Reddit search afterward confirmed what we experienced: Uncle Momo’s has a history of being rude, dismissive, and disorganized. This wasn’t a one-off....
Read moreInstantly one of our favorite restaurants in Jersey City. My fiance went for the first time last week, and we've already been a second time.
Situated on the corner of Grove and Mercer, Uncle Momo exudes a comfortable, neighborhood restaurant vibe. I love the atmosphere - dim lighting, homey - it's a place where you can truly just relax. The amazing smell inside helps even more with that.
The first time we went, I think we tried every appetizer, and there wasn't one we didn't like. Order pitas to use for dipping - they come out piping hot and perfectly puffed.
Everything you order here is so uniquely spiced and flavorful - I often find that the dish I get pleasantly surprises me with a taste that I wasn't expecting at all. Some highlights include the Chicken Quzi - chicken, sauteed vegetables, caramelized onions, raisins, cashews, basmati rice and spices enclosed in filo bread. I really enjoyed this dish, although I feel like it could have used just a little bit more salt. The Beef Shawarma is incredibly tender and flavorful. The Chicken Pitza is fantastic - lemon marinated chicken with garlic, vegetables, scallion and parsley. When I mentioned earlier that some dishes had a taste I didn't expect at all, this was one of them, and I loved it even more than I thought I would. Think of a very spice-driven dish, with citrus taste just peeking through. Bottom line is order anything, you can't go wrong.
Service is always friendly and accommodating. I can't wait to come back again and try more...
