I recently placed a party tray order for the Hyderabadi Goat Dum Biryani from Biryani Pot located at 824 Newark Ave, Jersey City, NJ 07306, and I must express my profound disappointment with both the quality of the food and the abysmal service provided. To start with, the meat in the Hyderabadi Goat Dum Biryani was disappointingly tough and hard, making the dining experience far from enjoyable. The meat's texture was a stark contrast to the expected tenderness and succulence that is characteristic of a well-prepared Hyderabadi Biryani. It was evident that the quality of the ingredients or the cooking process had failed to meet even basic standards. What made matters worse was the fact that the food got spoiled on the very same day it was ordered. This is not only unacceptable but also raises serious concerns about the restaurant's food safety practices. Consuming spoiled food poses significant health risks, and it is deeply unsettling that such negligence was displayed by Biryani Pot. Adding insult to injury, the service I received when attempting to address these issues was nothing short of appalling. The staff, particularly one individual, exhibited a rude and dismissive attitude. Instead of acknowledging the mistake on their part, I was met with defiance and a complete lack of accountability. The response I received was along the lines of, "Do whatever you want" and a disinterest in rectifying the situation. Such behavior is utterly unprofessional and reflects poorly on the establishment. Customers should feel confident that their concerns will be heard and addressed with courtesy, not met with arrogance and indifference. My experience with Biryani Pot on Newark Ave, Jersey City, was extremely disappointing due to the poor quality of the food, its untimely spoilage, and the unapologetically rude service. "Please Save your Hard Earn Money. Do Not go to this place is unhygienic and the food is risk to health for you, your kids and your...
Read moreCame here recently (June) for the first time. I'm not Indian nor Pakistani but am no stranger to this block or Indian food. I worked corporate for many years two blocks away on JFK Blvd and in Manhattan by Lexington and the 30's. I eat Indian often and not just what's popular with the masses of non-Indians. However, this time, did order a popular dish - Chicken Tikka (not Masala) with cabbage and Onion Naan.
The Good: (a) chicken portions were very generous with large chunks of boneless meat, a good lemon wedge (b) this may have been the most tender, most buttery textured chicken I've ever had (c) the onion Naan was steaming hot, flavorful and falling apart with little effort - as it should be. This was the best part of my lunch (d) prices were reasonable compared to the many surrounding restaurantsm (e) the counter-man and chef who brought me my takeout were both well-mannered and wore friendly smiles.
The Bad: (a) this place claimed that their air conditioner was broken. It was probably 95 - 100 degrees inside and the air plenty stale - unbearable. Not a single fan in sight for temporary relief. The man behind the counter was drenched in sweat and constantly wiping his head. The tables were empty (at peak lunch hour) save for one couple and their two kids. I can't imagine they were comfortable whilst dining (b) I love curry and I like moderate heat/spice. But this was the most firey dish I've ever eaten. My mouth was in pain from so many scovilles. I could barely finish it and had to sooth my tongue with Naan between every bite of chicken. The green chutney sauce on the side was tasty and had a good thick consistency but also was way too fire (not a good fire) (c) shredded cabbage was also included but barely enough to register as a side. It couldn't even be tasted over the burning hellish fire that was the chicken.
Unless they make some improvements, I'd recommend trying one of the many other...
Read moreOne of the most racist place within Indian community on Newark St. Jersey City, NJ. They prioritized South Indian Community first over North Indian and/or any other part of the India you are. I have very very bad experience at this place for food and treatment. As a customer, we arrived at Biryani Pot at approximately 11:35 PM. We were requested to have table twice and both time we were pulled off from table by the admin/server of Biryani Pot explaining the table was reserved for bigger group (South Indian group). Even that group came after me and requested the table. Finally, around approximately 12:05 AM we got table and seems like we are the only north Indian people at the location for food. We ordered the food with 10 mins after getting table, as we already decided what we want to eat. As per my best knowledge, we had placed order by 12:20AM (may be soon but not late). While we are waiting for food, there were two south Indian groups one with almost 8 people and second with 5 people were accommodated at restaurant. At approximately, 12:55 AM the first south Indian group of 8 started receiving food they order and approximately 01:05 AM the second south Indian group of 5 started receiving the food. Between 12:50 AM to 01:05 AM, we had minimum of 3 individual server asked, “did we placed order or not?”. We responded “yes” and we only order 3 items. We were told our food will come out in 2 minutes at approximately 12:59 AM but it did not arrive till 01:05 AM and again one of the server asked us “did we placed order or not?”. At approximately, 01:06 AM we walked out the restaurant without having food. I will never recommend this location if you are not from South Indian Community. I am giving one star just because it will not allow me to post my review- otherwise with such a treatment, I have not given a...
