To be honest I have never been to any Godavari restaurant and I do not understand why they give the exotic names that we do not even find in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in any restaurant. The worst thing is they haven't even updated Godavari in Jersey city in there website which is a sad thing. This is the first time I have visited a Godavari restaurant in Newark Ave Jersey city NJ. To start my experience we have ordered chicken 555, Rajugari kodi vepudu, Mamsam Roast and Veg Manchuria as appetizers and Goan chicken curry as an entree with Garlic naan and butter naan and paneer biryani. After that when we wanted to order Biryani's for main course they said that they have only Mutton Biryani of the group of 7 we had 2 people who eat only chicken biryani for that also we have adjusted and said okay. Now I will say the reality what happened after ordering all the above food, chicken 555 they made it with green chilli sort of paste with chili's which is not even tasty and way spicy for even a spicy eating person which we have returned and they have got it again making with dipping and mashing the chicken in hot sauce which also is not even tasty, Rajugari kodi vepudu which was good like a week before was not even tasting upto the mark and when we asked about it they have come up with a weird answer then the Mamsam roast was okay after getting to taste all of this. The veg Manchuria was very salty, the Goan chicken curry is a chicken Vindaloo which they haven't even mentioned in the description and with them we have ordered 2 garlic and 2 butter naans with them which we haven't even received after 10 mins of receiving the Goan chicken curry so canceled them. The paneer biryani is like adding rice in paneer n onions curry which is fooling people. By the time when they itself said they only had Mutton Biryani we ordered one to dine and one to to-go after 10 mins they come and say we only have 1 Mutton biryani to dine and we can't give for to-go. When we have expressed our displeasure on the food on all the items we have ordered they have come forwarded to not charge which we have not accepted and not even a single person from the higher level in management like the manager have come forwarded and apologized to us and they were just seeing the tamasha by sending the sub ordinates each time we order a food item. Of all the 7 people no one had a proper meal for the night and they didn't want to charge for us but no one from the management have come forward and let us know they were just giving the messages from there workers which was not acceptable. We might have ordered $100 of food but in the end we have not even had $15 food which is not at all worth it and paid $50. I'm not writing this review out of hate or frustration, it's my...
Read moreJust had the most disappointing vegetarian meal in 4 years of my stay in Jersey City. Went there with a friend. I ordered a special veg meal, my friend ordered non-veg. Unlike buffet, they serve the dishes. In starters, my friend got a dry fish and a dry chicken dish along with papad, bonda and an eggplant dish. I got nothing but the papad, bonda and the eggplant dish(everything cold). In main course, my friend was served with chicken and mutton curries along with chapati and pulao wheres I got a tasteless plain dal, a south indian veg curry containing mostly potato and a paneer curry. I had to call the server twice just to see four pieces of paneer together on my plate. It’s worth mentioning that the desserts were served in coconut shells. But 17$+tax per head for such pathetic veg meal is way way too much. It there was an option to give zero stars, I would have gone with that. Such a mood spoiler and a waste of money.
Update: Apparently the owner believes I’m pathetic for expecting a proper veg starter and a better veg menu in a meal that’s charged 17$+ taxes. What a shame! The purpose of comparing veg and non-veg meal is to show how poorly they manage the veg menu. I’ve been to so many buffets in Jersey City and the variety of veg starters ranging from idlis, vadas, pani puris to an array of chaats & pav bhajis etc. make even the non-vegetarians ditch meat for a moment and relish the veg starters. I am not saying every restaurant has all of these options, but at least they have 2 or 3. But instead of re-considering the menu, the owner thought it better to blame the customer. 👏🏻
Note: This is a review of the special bhojanam menu,...
Read moreTerrible food with equally bad service and unethical business practices. Server mistook our order and served chicken biryani instead of mutton biryani. When the mix up was pointed out they said they will make a new mutton biryani and proceeded to prepare it for us and packed it for take out. We didn't even eat more than 2 spoons of the chicken biryani as that not what we ordered. On receiving the check, it turned out they had charged us for both the biryanis! Menu had a few non alcoholic drinks listed. We were placing an order for a falooda which was listed as $5 in their menu. While the server took our order, the manager brought us another menu from some other restaurant down the street ( Grab and Go) and said that since they dont prepare the falooda in house and hence the price of $10 from the other restaurant will apply. Why would I pay the price listed from a random restaurant down the street when your own menu has a different price? They dont serve drinking water in glasses anymore but provide 500ml water bottles at $1.5 each which is not listed in the menu but charged in the final bill without any prior indication. Next level unethical business practices. I understand business is affected due to covid but dont try to cheat customers! On top of everything else the food tasted below average. We ordered the. chicken tikka, biryani and chicken chettinad...
