I have been coming here for 17 years, but today was the worst service I've ever seen. Every time I come for 17 years, I ordered the exact same dish, and I always ask for it to be made mild. It is made beautifully in the past, and very very tasty. Today, it was super duper spicy despite three times being told that I needed it to be mild. Neither I nor my guest could handle the heat. I asked for water, and I was told I have to buy it instead. They no longer provide water. Even when I told them that it was their fault that they made it super spicy when I had specifically told them mild, they did not provide water, and on top of it decided to teach me that when I say mild, I need to tell them it must be absolutely no spice whatsoever. In 17 years I have never had to explain to them what mild meant, they always did it automatically. The manager blamed it on the girl, said she was new and this was her first day. But I could tell from the way she was behaving that clearly this was not her first day, and she has been probably been there for some time, and just does whatever she wants to do. The manager did not offer water, and he did not offer to remake the dish. I have never seen any restaurant ever do anything like this. There are many other choice of restaurants here, it's time for me to take my favorite dish somewhere else, and give somebody else an opportunity to make it. I do not recommend this place anymore. For 17 years I had always recommended it, but...
Read moreUpdate: 18th May 2022 I went to try samosa to see if they are back to the same quality and service or not. But sadly they did not. I added a photo of a samosa. Uncooked, bland stuffing. Chutney seriously likes water. Just color.
———————- This 3-star is based on current dishes I tried and had multiple visits. So let me start by saying that this store is pure vegetarian in Newark and part of Indian Street for years but throughout the time management is the same. It's run by a Gujarati family. And these many years it's obvious that taste or items or menus go up and down. In the past when I visited multiple times and tried items were not that good compared to things you get on that street and other places. But now in some time again taste and dishes are really good if you try some of the snack items or sweets. Like chaat, bhaji puri, muthiya, dhokla, samosa, and Thali.
Now the interior is normal nothing big or different, just simple.
Service is good and fast. Help yourself. Cleaning is ok, not bad or great.
Price is very normal and as per market.
Options: lot of options in small dishes or sweets. Best for quick bites or try...
Read moreFood is stale and bad. The place had good food couple of years back, but recently it has been downhill. However, the people working there are obnoxious and cheat. I got jalebi from the store today. I never usually ask to taste sweets before making purchase, however last time I had bad experience and got stale jalebis that I realized after getting back home and I assumed the store owner didn't know about it and we just got unlucky with the last batch of left sweets. So, this time when I got there, I asked for small piece to taste before I made the purchase. The guy gave me a small piece of the jalebi and it tasted good, and I ordered a pound of it. However, right after coming back home, when we ate the jalebis in the box they were all stale and rubbery. I then realized that the guy packed jalebis from back of the tray; they must have kept some fresh jalebis in front of tray to give out to people like us who ask to taste, but then give the stale jalebis from back of tray. This is plain cheating !! I've now decided never to go to Rajbhog at JSQ and tell all of my friends to do avoid it...
