I've been here a few times now, and overall, I really like it.
Apps are good. I've had the labneh and hummus. The only complaint is that the portion is a little small. the pita, in particular, is not enough for the amount of dip on the plate.
I've also had the charred cabbage, and it was not for me. Not particularly bad, I did finish it, though aside from the charred exterior, it was basically completely raw. I wasn't expecting fully cooked, soft cabbage, but a slightly lower heat would still get a good char on the outside while at least slightly softening the inside of this large wedge of cabbage. The sauce that was drizzled on top was quite spicy and good.
The corn ribs were definitely the superior small dish compared to the cabbage, although I do think the portion is too small. I could eat roughly 500 of those little things.
I don't see it on the menu anymore, but on my first trip there, I had a fried calamari and "chorizo" sandwich. There was a slaw on there that was very tasty, and the calamari itself was cooked well and was nice and crunchy. Hated the chorizo. It tasted like a cheap Jimmy Dean frozen breakfast patty. Never had a chorizo that tasted like that in my life. I picked it off and ate the sandwich without it.
Also had the pappardelle. No complaints. Delicious. Cleaned that plate in like 5 minutes. Although once again, especially for pasta, the portion was quite small.
Lastly, for my drink, I had the Nico's Song mocktail. In my opinion, it is completely undrinkable. Even though ginger is listed as the 3rd ingredient following both beet and orange juice, it was the only thing i could taste. Way too heavy on the ginger. The server definitely saw that i had barely touched the drink but didn't ask me if I liked it. I did end up just asking her if this drink was always this gingery; she mostly ignored the question, although she was kind enough to take it off the bill.
The atmosphere here is really great & the pride flags hanging like a cute little halo over the bar makes me feel good about bringing my parter here and spending money at this business. Music is a little loud but tasteful and the table arrangement/decor is really nice. Although the last time I was here, there was a table with kids all with their shoes off & their feet on the tables.
There a lot of restaurants in JC to compete with, but I still see myself coming back here every...
Read moreThis was a very disappointing and awkward dining experience. We originally found this restaurant because our family was visiting NYC and we brought our small well-behaved puppy with us, so we were looking for a pet-friendly place and one website said it was supposed to be. When we got there we were told it wasn't pet-friendly, and we had to stay outside. However, because of the cold weather we pleaded to be let inside and were told it was ok, as long as the dog was shut inside its bag at all times. They seated us in the back corner far away from everyone and we complied and were respectful. We ordered burgers and fish and chips. The food was okay, but the burgers were smaller than you'd expect in a restaurant and very well-done. We ordered 2 kids meals for our 2 kids and an extra kids meal to share between them. The waitress said that we couldn't do that and told someone else, who we were assuming was the owner, who came to us and said the policy was 1 meal per child, but this was nowhere written on the menu. He asked us if we wanted a small plate instead and we said no thank you. When they brought out the food we were surprised because they ended up giving us 3 kids meals. When my wife brought one of the meals closer to her to eat from, and shared a bit of food to our hungry puppy, the owner came to us again immediately and told us not that ONLY kids can eat kids meals and that our puppy needed to be shut in the bag and not even fed. We definitely felt like we had been entrapped by them to see what we would do. It honestly reminded me of the Ricky Gervais skit in his Afterlife series. My wife then said that she was especially upset about this considering she was pregnant and he said she was lying. We all felt extremely uncomfortable and unwelcome and personally I've never been singled out and mistreated so much like this in a...
Read moreThis spot is pretty dope Casual date night vibes we made a reservation but still had to wait a bit for a table but thats cool restaurants get busy and people are unpredictable so things get backed up. It happens. Just have a drink and talk to your people and time flies by.
We sat outside which was a nice covered outdoor space. Not as lush as their inside but definitely had some thought put behind it all. And thats where you can sometimes spot a group dining with a dog which is always the best.
They didnt have a printed spirits/bourbon menu which is always kind of a bummer but alas there was plenty of other things to choose from
We tried the kimchi fried chicken which was a really nice dish with some comfort and some complexities
The burrata, always a classic, creamy refreshing and decadent all in one dish but nothing special
As well as the agnolotti which had butternut squash and peas and parm cheese. Not really in season right now but the dish was delicious and we ate every bite
We were pretty full after this so we didnt order more but i definitely want to come back and try some other things
I'm not well versed in "Australian" cuisine and flavors.... or maybe we didnt over the right things but this place seems like a trendy spot and the food is tasty.
Service was polite, there were a few instances where we had to wave down our server to put in an order or ask for another round but again busy night people get pulled in many different directions so we weren't upset....
Will be back...
