Whenever I go to a Chinese restaurant, especially a Sichuan restaurant, I usually first order one thing: the beef tripe appetizer (called 夫妻肺片 in Chinese). I order it, because it's usually a good indicator of how traditional a Chinese restaurant is and sets the bar for the rest of the food.
When I got my appetizer, I was pleasantly surprised. First of all was the portion size. At many restaurants, appetizer portion sizes are much smaller. At Grand Sichuan, it was almost an entire dish. Second of all, of course, was the taste. Admittingly, the dish was not as cold as I am experienced (it's supposed to be a cold appetizer) nor as spicy as I usually have, but it was still very good. I thought it struck a good medium between sweet and spicy.
The other dish I got was another traditional dish: braised pork belly (红烧肉). Honestly, the exact same thing can be said about this dish. The portion size was much more generous that I had come to expect of restaurants in the NYC area. And it was very good! In general, I would definitely recommend coming to take a visit if you're a fan of Chinese food.
NOTE: Another common indicator of how well a restaurant's food is by how ethnic the major clientele was. Follow the Italians to the good Italian restaurants. The Mexicans for the good Mexican restaurants. All the times I've been here, the majority of the other customers were...
Read moreNot happy at all with this place, not sure how anyone's rated this place anything higher than 2 or 3 stars. I had the Stir Fried Pork w. Hunan Style... there were plenty of rib bones left on the meat & I've had very similar dishes to this at other places where the bones were completely removed so that one could enjoy their meal, please see the pics. I also had their Shrimp Fried Rice, which had undercooked rice, plenty of it looked like rice-balls or as if old rice was cooked with fresh rice, the texture of it, look & feel reminding me of what you get at Panda Express, please see the pics... & I had their Shrimp w. Broccoli, decent sized Shrimp but they were not cleaned at all & the flavor was not the best either, couldn't even say it was close to good for the price they charge. First time here & definitely my last. These 3 plates costed me approximately $55. I found out the hard way why this...
Read moreI gave them one star because there is no way to give them no stars. This location was hard to find and even harder to find street parking. In addition, the sign on the restaurant states that it closes at 10 but the owner told me I couldn’t eat there or order out at 9:30. As soon as I walked in, she said they were closed and left it at that. The funny thing was that, I called before I arrived to see when they close and she never informed me they will be closing soon and won’t take any order at 9:30. It literally took me 50 minutes to drive to this restaurant.
The owner never even apologize for the inconvenience or even care about the fact that we were customers to this establishment. I don’t think I would ever come here for the horrible customer service or recommend this restaurant to anyone unless they want bad service or want service where people don’t care about...
