0 stars, but there’s not an option for that, we arrived within the grace period and once we arrived they said that they couldn't find our reservation, therefore we had to show proof, we were left standing around in confusion with no communication from any staff for about five minutes, after we showed the text messages between the manager, they finally agreed to seat us and reminded us that we had to leave before 9pm because someone in the group was only 18, which we were fine with because that info was presented in the text messages, they sat us at down at the rooftop and never handed us menus therefore, we had to get up and ask for someone for menus, when we received menus they gave us brunch menus even though we reserved for dinner time, we were confused as to why we were handed brunch menus at 8pm, and the waitress told us that the rooftop was brunch food only, we were even more confused because we reserved a dinner time slot / it took them 20 minutes to re-seat us downstairs to the dinner portion and said that we can stay past 9pm now as long as we leave before 10pm so they can move all the tables for the dance floor, once we got downstairs to the dinner section, we had to ask for the menus once again after not receiving any, the drinks came at reasonable timing, and were told that we had to leave soon, because it was almost 9pm even though the staff upstairs said that we can leave at 10pm now, the appetizer came out at reasonable timing, and were told that we had to leave at 9pm once again, even though we got told 10pm, we got to order our main course food and it took two whole hours for the food to come out, there were eight of us, half of us got their food first, the next two got theres five minutes later, and the other two, five minutes later as well, the photographer guy was talking directly over one of our foods so we tried to return the food, and at this point, we had enough and decided to leave they almost made us pay for the meal even though we didn’t eat it, the communication was horrible, the service...
Read moreI went for my sister's birthday (June 2024). It was Taco Tuesday, and there was a deal for the drinks that day; I think it was Margaritas for $7. The place is cozy. Typical Bar Vibe, and they have a nice rooftop area. The hostess checks us in. She's very friendly and welcoming and directs us to the rooftop.
We're seated and all order Tacos. We asked our server, I think her name was Jessica, about the $7 Margaritas. She tells us about them and then asks if we want regular or frozen? I asked what's the difference was, then asked what she recommended, and she said frozen. So we order frozen.
The food took about 45 mins to come out, which was odd. It was Taco Night. You'd think they'd be prepared to make them quickly. We get them, and they weren't very good. They were dry and underseasoned. Someone ordered lamb, and they didn't enjoy them either.
We get our checks, to get ready to pay, the $7 Margaritas were $14, Jessica "forgot" to tell us that the Frozen Margaritas she recommended weren't included in whatever deal they had going that night. I understand servers make a living off tips, but what she did to boost our bill was underhanded and sneaky. And when I asked her why she didn't mention it when we asked what the difference was, she shrugged her shoulders and said, "[she doesn't] know."
My sister is INSISTING that I let everyone know that she "didn't enjoy her birthday here, the music wasn't good, and it wasn't jumping." She even told the Owner. He felt bad and gave us all shots as an apology. He was a nice guy. Maybe we'd have a better time on a better night. The vibes were nice, as well as the place, so I'm not opposed to giving it another shot. I'll eat somewhere...
Read more"Home of the $3 mimosa." I've visited The Ashford a bunch of times and I really love the overall vibe. The outside is currently decked out for the holidays and so is the inside.
I love how they have a rooftop, full bar and seating all around. There's different levels such as the bar area (main floor), the upstairs seating is nice as you feel a little exclusive, then there's other areas on the top level before you get to the rooftop.
Since I visited during the holidays, I tried a cocktail from their holiday menu and "The Elf in Jersey City" is my favorite. The pumpkin cream makes in it reminds me of a festive egg nog or coquito. For food, their caesar salad is pretty solid. My boyfriend really liked their chicken tacos too. I had to order the firecracker shrimp which comes with 4-5 medium size shrimp; it was delicious but I definitely needed two plates, haha! The fries are good too.
In addition to good cocktails and food, the music is a mix of everything. Hip hop, R&B, Pop, Latin, etc. The music does get loud at night so if you're trying to have a heart to heart conversation, it's best to visit at another time. I never had bad service here either. You may wait a little long to get your servers attention but that's only if it's a very busy night. Our waitress gave us a gift card for waiting patiently which I thought was nice!
For parking, we all know Jersey City's street parking is a gamble so if you're not trying to circle for a spot, there's a parking lot where Shake Shack is about a block or two away. Reserve it on the ParkWhiz app as it's cheaper.
The Ashford is perfect for a night out, brunch and dinner. I always...
