My husband and I were around the area and we were looking for a place for brunch. The place is very nice looking, very minimalist and modern but so loud, I was barely able to hear the cashier. We were told to sit anywhere by someone in the kitchen and we were a bit confused as to how it was we ordered until we just went to the counter and we were told how they do things there; the cashier was nice.
My husband ordered the pancakes, plain, with a side of sausage and I ordered the Canadian Eggs Benedict with the Maple Chili Brussels Sprouts and a large Iced Mocha. The Eggs Benedict were good, the yolk was runny and it was well balanced, not out of this world but not bland either; a proper Eggs Benedict, I liked them more that the ones I had in Brownstone Pancake Factory. Now, they come with home fries and I have never had such bad tasting homes fries. They tasted like they were not good, like moldy or like they were going bad. I didn't eat them, I couldn't, I even smelled them to see if it was me, I told my husband there was something funky about them and they smelled like the tasted. The were really dark too, Idk how to describe it but they didn't look like any home fries I've ever eaten; they were wet and bad. So I ate the Brussel Sprouts and that was so delicious I ended up replacing the home fries with that. The coffee was good but the roast they use must be super caffeinated because I was super jittery the rest of the day and I'm a coffee drinker (I'm Puerto Rican too so coffee runs in my blood lol), it was good nonetheless, I think it would've been better to order the Medium size.
My husband got his pancakes and while they were good they were a bit dense, not fluffy like pancakes are supposed to be. He didn't get butter even though that's part of the description and the maple syrup was good, so was the sausage; it wasn't greasy at all.
Now this was the experience eating these, it was an ok place, atmosphere could be better, service could be better specially because it's one of these places where they ask you in the cash register to tip, which I did, but I think it could be just a little bit better. After we left through out the day and as I write this review both me and my husband have a bad stomach ache. We have eaten anything else because the acid reflux and the discomfort is that bad. That meal was my first meal of the day as I had to fast for a doctor's appointment in the area, that's why we stopped there to eat because I found the "Hey how you doin"? sticker on the front window eye catching and it had been the second time I had seen it while coming out of the Dr's office. I was very hungry too so we decided to go there. I'm not sure what did it for me, the only thing we had in common in our food was the maple syrup. He gave me a bite from his pancake and sausage for me to try but that was it.
I don't usually write reviews but I feel so sick to my stomach it's just not cool. I took pics of the food and enjoyed but it ruined my day, like its 9PM and I still feel nauseated and have bad acid reflux. I would give them another chance though because maybe it wasn't a good day and there's a lot of good reviews here, but if it was the maple syrup then I wouldn't be able to have the Brussel Sprouts again; this is what sucks about this because I cant even say what the heck it was!
I wanted to like this place, I have my usual spots but this time I wanted to give a new place a chance and it's not a great experience, not even good; just mediocre with an...
Read moreJust wanted to update my original review (below): Gussy's now has a full menu and remains a sunny and very promising addition to the 'hood. The bacon was crispy, the breakfast potatoes were tasty and not too greasy, and the toast was toasted well and not over-buttered. Stopped by this morning - they are still in soft opening phase. I will say my scrambled eggs were a bit overcooked/browned and I prefer them fluffy and not brown, but I suspect that was a fluke. ORIGINAL review: I had the BEC on brioche and it was delicious. Also had fresh-brewed green iced tea, and it was well done. As an environmentalist, I do wish the tea was served in a glass (not in a plastic to go cup with straw), but that is a small thing that they can adjust. Very bright and clean and a promising new addition to our...
Read moreMy partner and I came to Gussys today for the first time. We were super excited to try it because we looked through peoples reviews and photos and the food seemed delicious. Unfortunately we did not enjoy the food and would not come back. First our lattes came out, they were extremely milky (all milk no espresso) but we didn’t say anything as we are not the type of people to complain. Then the food came out….my partner got a Vegetarian Benedict and it was extremely lack luster to say the least. The eggs were cooked through and not runny. The veggies were bland and gritty and the potatoes that looked delicious and seasoned online were the very opposite. The potatoes were cold hard and also bland. The staff was extremely nice and the location was beautiful but the food and drinks are...
