I grew up in Cypress and have been going to Bonsai for over 20 years. Today was the worst experience, service wise, I have ever had at Bonsai, or any restaurant honestly. Waitress didn't know what beers they had and looked it up on her phone (?) even though the fridge is right there. Also there was difficulty making my lychee champagne. Once the sushi came out, had to wait for someone so we could ask for napkins, chop sticks and soy sauce. Once my food came out, had to wait for someone so I could ask for a fork. I asked if they could turn on the TV as we were sitting at the bar in front of the TV. I asked if they could turn on a sports channel. Waitress had difficulty figuring out how to work the TV and then put on some animal channel showing animals eating and being attacked. I asked the waiter if he could please change it to something sports related. Waitress goes, "WHATTTT DON'T CHANGE IT." I said, "I specifically asked for a sports channel and do not want to watch dead animals while eating." The manager ended up coming over to change it because nobody knows how to work the TV. Speaking of that, 90% of the time the waitress was sitting at the end of the bar, on her phone texting, with a sprite and a drink umbrella. Even when customers came in she did not put away her phone. This was right in front of where the manager sits. I do not know why a manager would allow such unprofessional behavior. I have worked at a few restaurants and that would not be allowed. We ordered two pieces of sushi off of the happy hour menu but received two entire rolls so the order was entered in the system wrong. Not a huge deal...but definitely made our bill higher than originally expected. THE KITCHEN MUSIC. OMG. It was blaring. When a song would end, I could hear the TV for 2 seconds, but once the next song came on, you don't hear anything other than the most annoying music in the entire world. When we asked for the check, the waitress gave it to us and stood there until we put up our credit card. Felt rushed and awkward. Even more awkward was after my boyfriend signed and tipped, he kept the check next to him at the bar. The waitress kept coming over and asked us if we were all done because she likely wanted to see the tip. Again, unprofessional.
There were a ton of other small things but these were the 8 that bugged me the most. I know the waiter and waitress are probably new, and definitely need a lot of training, such as providing soy sauce and chopsticks with sushi, napkins, fork etc. without having to be asked. I want to give props to the waiter for definitely trying his best and putting in a tremendous amount of effort. I cannot say the same about the waitress. Management, you need to step up, train your staff and get rid of people who make someone who has been going to your restaurant for over 20 years never...
Read moreUpdate I went on Fathers day 6/16 after routinely having superb service and was let down significantly! I waited 1and a half hours not because there was so many ppl waiting for service. It was because it was only 1 chef working!!!! On a holiday. It was a young boy probably a teenager who I believe was the owner son working the hostess stand who barely spoke English. Normally it's a young lady that works it who is super helpful. I asked could we sit at the bar to get a drink while we wait he says yes. 15 minutes later we are still waiting on a bartender to make our drinks. We ask the young boy who is the bartender he says they didnt have one. He went and got his manager who took our bar order and gave me the weakest Hennessy and coke I've ever experienced I promise it was only coke. I asked her could she make it stronger she says I have to purchase a second drink for her to put a shot in the first one. I said no she just poured the drinks out and walked off. She never said anything else to us. We asked for a mgr and come to find out she is the mgr. We are bombed plus we've been waiting forever but figured if we left and went somewhere else we would have to start waiting all over again. So we stayed it took a hr after that to be seated and 20 minutes after being seated to get our order I have never had worst service. Keep in mind they WERE NOT PACKED just only one cook but he was my favorite cook Mario is the best hands down. We got great food from him and service. He's keeping them afloat. The 3 stars are for him only.
When I pulled up there was no one there (customers) and it’s a part of a strip. My family and I was hesitant but let me tell you that we had the most amazing experience. The waitress was well versed and explained menu items perfectly. We ordered a drink from the bar and it was really good. We also ordered hibachi and sushi and the food was delicious. Everything was great including the experience. I loved that...
Read moreTonight, 8/18/2023, I placed an order directly through the restaurant’s website for pickup on the way home from a long day at work. There is a live tracker for the order’s progress and I got to the restaurant a few minutes before it told me (and also texted me) that it was ready. I was literally waiting in my car outside of the restaurant when it told me my food was ready and then I went straight inside to get my order. The hostess girl looked confused and started running around and then grabbed the manager. They told me I had already picked up my food and I assured them that I had not and was indeed standing right before their very eyes. They said they gave my order to someone else. I understand that mistakes happen but I was appalled that they were actually looking for ways to blame ME for their mistake, saying that I must have shared my information with someone else or that I selected to have my order delivered, which I did not and showed them confirmation on my phone with both the tracker on their website AND with the texts that were sent to me saying my food was ready. It was ridiculous because I felt like I had to direct the manager in order to get my food. I never even received an apology!!! It was like they were mad at me because THEY messed up and gave my order away!!! I actually had to tell them that I understand that mistakes happen but THEY messed up and we needed to find a solution because I wanted the food I paid for. The manager even made a comment about how this was now out of an order already. I asked him “ok, what does that have to do with me?” I asked them to take care of me and slip me a few pieces or sushi to make up for their mistakes and he couldn’t even do that. Now I will be posting this review everywhere and will never be ordering from here again. The management and employees are like little children....
