My wife and I are in our mid-60's and every year do an extended weekend at a B&B somewhere in the northeast. We didn't know much about Jim Thorpe but heard nice things and we love Pennsylvania so we went there the last weekend of September. After researching places to stay, we chose Times House and we're so glad we did. It is likely our favorite inn that we've ever been too. We got the Legacy Suite. It's on the second floor (an easy walk up the stairs) with a large bedroom that has a tv, electric fireplace and a dining table where you find home baked goods all day. There's a second room with a large sofa and another tv. Then there's a step down to a unique bathroom which we loved. (The inn's website has better pictures of the room than we could ever take.) For breakfast, fresh yogurt or something similar is placed in your refrigerator along with homemade granola and fresh fruits. This is all found in your room. Some people may like the full bacon-and-eggs breakfast around a dining table (we do also) but this was a nice change and we had no complaints. I wish we had more time to sit in their living room, which was cozy and comfortable with snacks, a jigsaw puzzle and an old typewriter. That's tribute to the history of the 19th century inn, which was the home of the local newspaper in the early-to-mid 1900's. (Hence the name of their inn.) Diane and Chris were excellent hosts, very knowledgeable about the area and pleasant to talk to. And we can't say enough about the town. There are so many unique shops, museums, historic structures and places to eat and drink. The train station where you enter Jim Thorpe is a mini-gathering spot with tables and chairs, kiosks and places to grab a bite. The main street is Broadway, a nice walk on either side of the street with plenty to see. But the coolest street is the one Times House is on -- Race Street. It's a skinny street with little car traffic and it'll remind you of England or Scotland. Great architecture with brick and cobblestone buildings. Diagonally from the B&B is a Christmas shop where Christmas music softly plays in the street. And the best part of our visit was that we only used our car once during a 3-day weekend. Times House has its own parking area right off Broadway where you can safely leave your car, walk up a short flight of stairs to Race Street and the inn is right in front of you. It's a great place to cocktail hop because you'll never need your car keys. Weird as it sounds, you should visit the Jail Museum. Not what we expected but very interesting. We loved our trip and loved Times House so much we bought a gift certificate for our daughter and her...
Read moreWas trying to find a place to stay in the town in a last minute two days ago. Every inn or B&B was fully booked until I called Times House and was told that there’s a room available in my time frame. So I booked the room at once and came the next day!
Right after my booking, Diane, the owner who helped me book the room sent my a confirmation email with details on the reserved parking spots, which located behind 55 Broadway, one street down from Race Street.
Right before we arrived, Diane called to check for our arrival time so that she could go down to guide my parking. As soon as we arrived, Diane and Chris helped us to carry our luggage and sent them to our room.
So, Times House is just steps up the street right from the parking lot (2 has electric chargers), and right next to the historic church on Race Street, only a hundred yards away from the railway station! And this street is so quite although it’s convenient to everything!
As soon as we got in the inn, Diane showed us what was on the first floor lobby. And in our 3rd floor room Overlook, Diane’s homemade food and fruits were already set on the nice dining table with beautiful dinnerware and silverware, and the fridge was fully stocked with juices, water, homemade yogurt. I was so surprised and happy to see these as it’s my first time staying in a B&B, so I brought a lot of fruits and drink, which turned out to be not necessary at all!
The Overlook Room has the best view of the inn. It’s is spacious, clean and cozy. And the private bathroom down the hallway is shining.
Diane is very helpful whenever I need information on things in town. I can’t be more satisfied with everything here. And I feel blessed that I had the luck to get a room in this inn!
I strongly recommend you stay with Times House if you plan for a vacation or getaway in Jim Thorpe. And let me tell you, Diane’s homemade food is all so delicious, as also reviewed by others. You will definitely...
Read moreOur first time visiting the town of Jim Thorpe. We stayed in the Legacy Grand Suite for 4 nights and had a fantastic getaway! The suite was spotless and beautifully furnished and had a very comfortable king-size bed.
We received a gracious and warm welcome from the host when we arrived.
First, let me start from the outside going in. The street that the Inn is located is so quaint and charming, we weren’t even inside yet, and I knew it was going to be wonderful. Diane and Chris were fantastic hosts, gave us tips on where to eat and things to do. The Inn has a fireplace in the common area along with coffee, tea, and hot chocolate.
Our suite was a great size, and I was very impressed with how clean it was. The mattress was very comfortable, and so was the couch in the sitting room. The in room breakfast was perfect! Stocked juices in the mini fridge, fresh yogurt with honey and berries, and ready on our table were granola, fruits, scones, muffins, biscotti and the most delicious cakes.
We did not get into our car at all as everything was less than a 10 min walk away. We did the train ride, a show at the opera house, Big Creek tasting room, Myst, Molly Maguires, and shopping. When we come back to Jim Thorpe, and we will be back, Times House will be our place to stay! I’m already trying to arrange a friends trip...
