It’s unfortunate that this review is necessary. I was told that we would receive a survey where our comments would go directly to the innkeeper. Since we never received that survey, there is no choice but to leave this public review and hope someone in charge sees it. My wife and I have been going to the Inn at Jim Thorpe for years. We recently had a weekend getaway to celebrate a birthday, and stayed at the inn’s main building. In the middle of the night when we were asleep, we were both woken by sounds and voices in the hallway outside our door, followed by someone messing with our door, followed by the door being flung open with 2 men standing in the doorway. One of them started entering the room. Imagine waking up to this from a sound sleep (I thought we were being robbed). We started screaming at them to get out of the room, I started trying to figure out what we could use as a weapon to defend ourselves. Person #1 says to Person #2 “are you sure this is your room?”. After a few moments they closed the door and left. I’m skipping a lot of details to try to keep this brief. I went to the front desk and asked the attendant if he is the person that unlocked our door. He said yes, said that the other person came up to him, was slurring his words, and he thought he said he was in room ###. Obviously the desk attendant did nothing to verify the mumbled words of a drunk person, he simply escorted him to our room and unlocked the door. He never apologized to us. I stated I wanted to file a complaint, he said there was no manager on duty, but she would be arriving in the morning. Suffice to say that sleep was lacking the rest of the night. Said manager did not show up for duty the next day. I had to repeatedly insist that she call me, and was repeatedly told that likely would not happen. When she finally did call, there seemed to be no sympathy to the situation or concern about the actions of the employee. This situation could have escalated horribly in so many ways and no one seemed to care. It’s only when I expressed those concerns that she “confided” that this employee should have been fired a while ago but unfortunately they can’t find anyone else to replace him. If the minimum you expect from a hotel is a safe place to get a good night’s sleep, if the manager’s thoughts express the standards that are set for employees of this establishment, if there is no concern about a ruined vacation (if you don’t sleep it’s hard to enjoy the rest of the weekend plans) and no acknowledgement of the violent scenarios this could have led to, think twice before staying here. I'd advise you to bolt the door, but their rooms are not equipped with any...
Read moreI had high hopes for this place when I booked it for a short trip, but was disappointed. Good things first- location is pretty good for a short walk to the hub of touristy things like the train ride, biking, rafting, etc. It can also be a drawback because it is so close to a very busy intersection which is very noisy. The hotel is clean although showing some wear. Our king room was located on the 4th floor which was fine until a transformer blew and the whole area lost electricity. This is where things turned. First of all there is a restaurant connected to this hotel which very much increases their foot traffic. When the electricity went down they immediately shut their doors (there was a generator which was activated for minimal service). That was surprising since people who had just checked in were begging for even a snack or a drink. Besides that the staff were pretty much clueless about what to do. They didn't even know if the generator powered anything in the rooms nor did they make any attempt to report the outage or try to find out what happened. They had no supplies for anyone to assist in getting people (many of which were seniors) to their rooms like a flashlight or even batteries for a flashlight. There was NO MANAGER on the premises because apparently the manager leaves for the day and there is no night manager. Strange for a hotel that charges in excess of $150 a night. Also when asked about perhaps some compensation for the inconvenience of staying at a hotel with no electricity, I got no real answer and actually no compensation, apology for the incovenience or anything. Also, there is no free breakfast but there is a $10 voucher for breakfast. No one told us that we would get no voucher because we didn't book directly through them. NO ONE TELLS YOU THAT! In conclusion while they were the only hotel in town (there are bed and breakfast type places), we were told by a person who works in tourism for the town that the Y on Broadway (a hotel that was once a YMCA) is the place to stay. It is down the road a bit in a much quieter part of town so take that as a bit of advice...
Read moreAs lovely as this Inn is to the eye, had we been informed ahead of time and or at check in, we would have chosen to leave and find another inn. We had no idea that there would be no housekeeping services provided. My husband and I checked in for first time visit on Sunday, September 13th (we have stayed in hotels 4 times since April 2020 and have never run into this issue) so today, we left I'm the morning for the day and assumed that we had given more than enough time for our room to be cleaned and restocked. We arrived back to our room at 3pm onlybto find the pile of dirty, damp towels and washcloths lying on the bathroom floor. An unmade bed and overflowing trashcans. I immediately called the front desk to inquire when housekeeping would come with clean towels. Toilet paper, coffee, etc. The representative at the front desk informed me that housekeeping would not be coming to our room and that if we needed anything, we would need to stop at the front desk and ask for towels, etc. WHAT? Again. I have been staying in out os state hotels since April and have always had a clean, restocked room. Upon check, we were given $7 pp breakfast vouchers for each morning of our stay, fine. We chose to eat in the inns restaurant for breakfast, using our vouchers only to find that for a party of 2, they tack on a 20% gratuity whether service was worth it or not. Our service was just ok, and we are usually very good tippers but please don't assume what I'd like to include as a tip for me. I completely understand this practice for a larger party. In short, we booked a 3 night stay at The Inn at Jim Thorpe and if we leave early, we will be charged a fee sooo I'll chalk it up to live and learn but we would not recommend staying here. Very dissatisfied and...
