Has Changed. Changing my review. When I lived near this restaurant, my wife and I would frequent this place almost on a weekly basis. I had nothing but good things to say back then... But we moved out of the neighborhood and after about 2 years, we brought this place back up from our memory. So we went on a 20+ minute drive just to visit our old fav. place... We should have guessed that it had gone down hill since. There was hardly any customers. When we used to frequent this place, it used to be packed. Anyway, we ordered Kimchi tofu soup and gopchang tofu soup and also the nengmyun (cold noodles) that we used to enjoy so much when we used to eat here almost on a weekly basis. What we got was something like tofu thrown in some instant noodle packet and nengmyun that tasted worse than some instant packaged cold noodles bought from the Hmart across the street. My gopchang tofu soup even had a sandy bite to them as if they didn't clean the gopchang enough, and even the "side dishes" (banchan) of the cucumbers had this chewy texture as if it had been out and dried out. How can cucumbers even have this texture? I thought... Now my wife's kimchi soup... as soon as it came to the table, we both smelled the foul frozen and defrosted and OLD pork smell. It reeked so bad that we both instantly acknowledged each other without saying a word. Places like this should not be in business. The previous owner or whatever... I have no idea what has happened since 2 years ago but... this place should not exist in the state that it's in currently. STAY AWAY! Shameful that this place represents Korean food, being...
Read moreUsed to love this place and come once a week with friends and family. I was a regular.
I spent $76 on food including a good tip and one of the ladies at the counter was rude. We asked for to-go boxes and they gave three tiny containers for our tofu soup, mackerel, galbi, extra rice (which we paid for), and scallion pancake. How were we supposed to fit everything? Then I approached the counter and asked for two more containers and the lady asked what were the containers for. Uh...for my food? Why am I being investigated?
Then she FOLLOWS me to my table to inspect what I need the containers for. We had a refill of banchan/side dishes that we ate and had a little leftover - I felt sorry to leave it since it would be thrown out. I asked if I could have a container for the banchan and she said "No. Banchan can't be taken to-go." It would have gone in the trash anyways so why does it matter if it's in my stomach or if I take the leftovers home? How wasteful. And THEN before we could say anything else she quickly cleared the table of the banchan on purpose so we couldn't pack it. Then she tried to take my galbi to pack it. I told her I wanted to pack it myself because I didn't want anyone touching my food due to COVID. And still she tried to insist on packing it and didn't seem to want to let go.
Honestly I'm disgusted. I was introducing a friend to this place but we will not be returning and I will no longer be recommending this place to anyone. It's not worth it for the terrible management and their cheap...
Read moreEaster Sunday and I was feeling a little hungry after sitting through service. A few church friends and I decided to hit up this place afterwards (my first time), and I was pretty pleased with what I got.
It isn't that busy on weekends, and I liked the wood decorated interior of the restaurant. We sat down and quickly ordered, I got the kimchi and pork tofu soup for $8.99, which was a bit pricey for what I was paying for. They give you 5 levels of spiciness, and I chose the 4th one, spicy, though I thought about getting the 5th one, Death (shivers).
They quickly brought out plates of small dishes like appetizers, and I really enjoyed the savory tofu and the glass noodles. Then the entrees came out. What an entrance! There's always something about food coming to you bubbling hot, with steam piping out. You should add the raw egg into it at this step, but I forgot and didn't do it until later. I'm terrible with eating hot foods (always burn myself) so I had trouble the first 5 minutes, plus the dish was pretty spicy for me added with the temp of the dish. After a while I got through it, and enjoyed adding the purplish rice into the dish.
I really want to give this place 5 stars, but I need to visit a few more times to see what it's about. My only complaint is that it's a bit pricy, then again I'm not familiar with Korean tofu soup, or Korean food in general. But speaking from someone with a Chinese palate, it seemed pretty normal to me, perfect for a cold day. Definitely coming here again, I...
