Underwhelmed, unmemorable, and 25% overpriced, but inexplicably popular with the 55+ crowd. We enjoyed the romantic banquette seating and the massive wrought iron fixtures, and the great iced tea (why the tiny glasses, Al?). The rest, ehhh, it’s the same premade Bacos Bacon-like Bits, and beets from a jar you’ve sneered at on Sizzler’s salad bar, and passable but high priced and smallish steaks overwhelmed with charcoal grill to the point that you can’t taste any nuance otherwise and you feel like you licked an ashtray (they did nail the done-ness scale, hence an extra star). The prime rib wasn’t bad- the 18 oz cut seemed far smaller than the 16 oz cut at one of our favorite steakhouses, and putting it on a smaller plate doesn’t really fool anyone, Al. My husband liked the kicky horsey sauce, but big fail on the double baked, as you managed to make them taste like cheap, dry, steam table spuds from a box. (Go to Merichkas, and don’t come back until you’ve had a double baked epiphany!). Husband loved his tiramisu, but my $7 “amazingly creamy cheesecake with raspberries,” was the same ole’ Sam’s stuff I buy 16 slices for $11.95, but they befouled it by runny, mostly thawed red seedy glop with the consistency of pre-teen lip gloss (and about as appetizing- gag). The homemade crostini and calamari were pretty nice but our distracted waiter, who seemed to be lamenting his life choices between courses, didn’t have the foresight to bring a crumb scooper to refresh the table. I seem to have offended him by asking for a refill of my 4 ounce iced tea glass with dessert (my empty glass had escaped his notice for over 20 minutes). Franchesco’s in Rockford, IL simply blows this place out of the water, and it’s a bit less expensive to boot- the quality and skill of the food in Rockford makes this look like amateur hour. And hunky distracted waiter dude, just put in an application at Home Depot if you’re...
Read moreBeen going to Al's since I was a little kid when my parents who also frequented it for years pre kids- went weekly... The service and food are just as good as any place up North. (If your stuffy that matters to you...) It's great food, Awesome service. I have NEVER had a bad meal there nor has anyone I took there for a business lunch (Great place to get a signature on a contract after a hour at the bar.) If your taking a first or third date there your likely to get laid. (Use protection folks) I used to live in the City so I can talk the talk on fine dining and for Joliet- This is really the pinnacle and they work hard for it.. The owner (George) and his wife are always there: lunch and dinner and actually comes to thier clients- cordial, concerned, genuine and tell him the truth if anything is off- He wants your experience to really mean something- A real rarity these days and I go there regularly when I am in need of a restaraunt for fine dining (Otherwise we haunt "Mattie's Place" on RT 59 by Target in Shorewood- ) .. or a quit bar you can knock some work out in at lunch. Great ambiance and style. Rocking wine collection from the valley to coasts and Intl. selections- A+ again.. (I don't drink but know wine- Go figure??..) The check at the end is really honest. For the quality of the food it's really on the mark. Accurate given the service you get which again is great. Sunday BRUNCH is a staple of Joliet- If you have never been there- GO it's way worth it and you will leave beyond stuffed- but relax- there are gyms near... They do have a good "lite" menu too if that is your thing again... Summary: Good food/ great bar/ wines : Steak specialty menu Awesome service...
Read moreMy son's and I came with my grandbaby from Tennessee for a visit and decided to get a steak in town.. We were greeted with smiles even though we weren't exactly dressed up to go out for a fancy steak. Just coming in from a busy day, we were greeted with smiles and sat promptly.. Our (new friend) waitress Sherill brought us water and told us about the menu and specials. She was absolutely awesome. Felt like we had known her forever.. She made sure to help us with questions about the menu and told us about the different steaks and such.. She made sure we didn't want for anything.. And then when we started getting full she came around and completely boxed our Togo boxes and prepped it nice and tidy for our trip home . I was trying to clean up a lilbit because we had made a mess but she wasn't having it.. She made the experience at our new favorite place so much more amazing.. She sat the bar very high for other waitresses from here on out in my eyes.. and she did it with such ease .Now let me tell u all about the food.. My house salad was delicious.. The dressing is homemade in house.. So good . My burgeeshly ground beef.. so juicy.. worth every penny.. my son ordered a steak.. He said it was cooked perfectly.. We really appreciate the hospitality.. and will visit everytime we come to town.. If you haven't ate here before please give them a try.. The food is far beyond expectations and the beautiful smiles of those who appreciate you when you open the door to come inside are worth it.. Thank y'all so much. We really enjoyed it.. and to Miss Sherill.. We will be seeing you soon.. and thank you.....
