The original Duffy’s Drafthouse was founded by childhood friends. It was situated next to the railroad tracks in Lake Park, Florida beginning in 1985.
From the start, Duffy’s was known for - and proudly proclaimed to have - the best burgers and coldest beer in town!
Back then, while there were plenty of beer choices, the restaurant had only four menu items: Grilled Mahi Sandwich, Hot Ham and Cheese, Smoked Sausage and ½ lb. Cheeseburger. All of the items came with potato chips so you didn’t need silverware and the cooks didn’t need a fryer. The pool tables in the back were given as much space as the restaurant
Now rebranded as Duffy’s Sports Grill and expanded to nearly three dozen locations, the old pool tables are gone and there are food and beverages to please everyone from the youngest member of your clan to the oldest.
For starters, my family and friends gravitate toward Duffy’s Crispy Fried Calamari (with cherry peppers, tomato basil marinara and a spicy sauce).
Usually I default to a Caesar Salad, but I really like Duffy’s Chopped Salad (with applewood smoked bacon, crumbled blue cheese, tomato, a hard-boiled egg, cucumber and red onion). Add some mahi, salmon, shrimp or chicken if it pleases you.
If you like soup, you can’t go wrong with any at Duffy’s: classic French Onion Soup, Chili, New England Clam Chowder or Lobster Bisque. That’s my dad in the photos - Julian L. Williams at 94 years old - enjoying a bowl of Clam Chowder at the Duffy’s on Indiantown Road in Jupiter, Florida.
After over 30 years of enjoying the food at Duffy’s different locations, I still believe that they make a fantastic cheeseburger, and that’s my “go to” when I go, which is often! I do enjoy other regular menu items - for example Crispy Alaskan Cod (a massive slab of fish served with French fries, coleslaw and tartar sauce) - as well as their special items, such as the Wiener Schnitzel served every October.
Other favorites of mine include Grilled Salmon, Blackened Mahi and Center Cut Top Sirloin. My nephews recommend the slow-roasted Baby Back Ribs and plates (1/2 racks) of Wings that come with your choice of a sauce.
In addition to the beer (and wine coolers) Duffy’s had in the 1980s, they now feature a full bar. I especially like that I can request a chilled Patron neat. Not every sports bar keeps a bottle of tequila in the chiller! But Duffy’s...
Read moreA couple weeks ago we called to make reservations for a birthday party. The day before the party we called to verify that we were good to go for the next day. The guy that answered the phone said we called the wrong place and there were no reservations for us. My husband was getting upset and the guy basically told him to chill out. So he asked to speak with the manager and kindly verified that yes we did have reservations. We show up at the correct time and was assigned a waitress. We ordered appetizers for 12 and ordered our meals after apps came. They brought out our orders but never cleaned off app plates. So the table was pretty crowded. We noticed that the waitress had gradually became more and more rude and a lot less attentive. No refills and when my husband brought attention to the fact that one of our guest food was cold, she walked away without a word. Came back and said do you want to see a manager and was told no just bring the bill. A manager came over anyway and we explained the issue. The manager started clearing the table herself. She must have said something to the waitress because she completely ignored us after she dropped the bill at the table. We waited awhile for her to pick up the bill a card but she kept ignoring us. My husband finally took it up to the bar to pay. We were not a difficult bunch at all. I don't know the waitress name but she has no business working in public. She was rude the whole time and definitely put a damper on our gathering. Worst $300 meal ever. And she got a nice tip, more than she deserved. Won't be in a big hurry to go back and will look for a different venue for any future gatherings. Also, we drove over 100 miles...
Read moreI have gone to this Duffy’s all the time and did not have a problem until now. My server I believe her name is Zinnia, was not good at all. My wife order a Philly cheesesteak with no onions and mushrooms. Our waitress looked at her and said ok no problem. My wife’s entire sandwich had nothing but onions and mushrooms (as you can see in the receipt she didn’t put the modifications down) Also, the first thing I ordered was my son’s kids spaghetti. She repeated it back to me and then asked me if I wanted marinara or butter. I said marinara. All of our food came out and not my sons. She then came over and said “oh you didn’t order his so I didn’t know” I was so upset that she would say something like that, after that was the first thing I ordered. Also she didn’t check on us, and when she refilled my daughters drink she brought the wrong drink multiple times.
Now the food was very good except the wings. I ordered the golden BBQ wings and they tasted like the chicken had no seasoning on it. I know that’s not the waitresses fault so I don’t fault her for that. Again I’ve gone there multiple times and never had a problem until now. Every time I got there the management and staff our always very customer service oriented, friendly, and are...
