Mackenzie River Pizza, Grill & Pub offers a delightful dining experience with its inviting atmosphere and diverse menu offerings. Upon entering, you're greeted by spacious booths, tasteful decor—including charming birch trees in one section—and a classic pub ambiance complete with a well-stocked bar offering a variety of options.
Our visit was prompted by a specific craving for Poutine, which we confirmed via phone beforehand. Although not listed on the menu, our waiter clarified that while they technically didn't have traditional Poutine, however, due to a Poutine burger that is on the menu, the available ingredients could be used—a workaround that was able to satisfy our craving.
The Poutine was a definite highlight of our dining experience, especially for my family who joined me for the first time trying. As someone who has sampled Poutine in both Canada and the US, I would confidently rate it a 4/5. The fries were perfectly cooked, offering a satisfying crunch, while the rich and beefy gravy paired impeccably with the delectable chunks of cheese curds.
Moving on to the sliders, they also earned praise for their quality meat and house-made pickles, which added a delightful touch. However, I couldn't help but notice a lack of seasoning, particularly salt and pepper, which slightly impacted the overall flavor profile. Despite this minor critique, they still garnered a commendable rating of 3.5/5.
While our dining experience had its highs, the Black and Blue steak bites unfortunately fell short of expectations. The cooking process seemed to have faltered slightly, as the meat entered the pan with excess moisture, hindering proper caramelization. Additionally, the excessive saltiness and lack of black pepper further detracted from the overall enjoyment, leading to a rating of 2.5/5.
Riley, our server, truly exemplified top-notch service during our visit. His upfront communication, poise, and seamless navigation between tables showcased a level of professionalism that exceeded expectations. Not only did he gracefully attend to our needs, but he also anticipated them, demonstrating an exceptional level of attentiveness and hospitality. In every aspect of front-of-house service, Riley surpassed our expectations, leaving a lasting impression...
Read moreHorrendous customer service at the Kalispell location. We had a horrible experience over the 4th of July at the Kalispell location. After they took my phone number for a table of 12 (on a holiday where they had stated they were understaffed and I asked the front desk upon check in if they could seat us and they said yes in 40mins) I checked in after 30mins, as they NEVER called me to announce any changes, and was told it would be an additional 1.5hrs to get a 12 spot. When I asked the Large Blonde Karen newly working at the host spot what changed and why didn't you call, I was told there was nothing they could do and we would just have to wait. I asked if there were any options and was told if we didn't like it we could leave.
This was not satisfactory for anyone to experience. I asked for the manager and was accused of being rude and I quickly realized the LBK was welding her little known power in an unacceptable manner. The manager made his way over and promptly blamed the mess up on the 16 year old working the host check in when we arrived (clearly he is responsible for the 16 year old and everyone else). I asked if there were options to split up the party and was told no as they seated new parties right in front of us.
It was at this point I decided I would not dine there as no one understood any kind of customer service. They could have presented options like "Dine at the bar, or we can seat you at different tables over time."
No options presented, rude LBK who literally grunted at her manager when he asked her to leave the conversation (Who does that? grunts??) so we decided to dine elsewhere.
This is where it gets good. We arrived at the Mackenzie River Pizza in Whitefish where it was buzzing for the 4th of July and they were able to get us seated and served (AT DIFFERENT TABLES OF COURSE) within an hour. We had great food and great service at the Whitefish location. The Kalispell location needs to do some cross training with Whitefish to understand GOOD customer service. The Kalispell management and LBK need to be trained and for sure...
Read moreThe wait staff is inconsistent, rude, and service is slow. I’ve eaten here many many times over the years, and never been asked for ID. And what would you know, the one time I accidentally leave my ID on my desk at work, the waitress decides to card me (I’m 35 years old and my 60 year old husband and teenage son are sitting next to me). I explained to her about my ID, and tell her I’m 35 years old, and that I’ve had a drink here many times without being carded- she says it doesn’t matter to her, and she won’t serve me without an ID, it’s policy - ok, whatever, it’s irritating after a long week, but I understand. So my husband leaves the restaurant drives across town and gets my ID. With my ID in my pocket, rather than wait for our waitress to come back, I walked up to the bar and ordered a beer (fully expecting to be ID’d), and was served a beer with no questions asked and no ID requested. Which generally speaking would seem normal to me, as I haven’t been ID’d in years, but given how rude the our waitress was to me about my ID, I was surprised at the inconsistency between the wait staff and the bartenders where showing ID was concerned. So with beer in hand I arrive back at my table, and am merrily sipping along, when our waitress comes back by, sees me with my beer, and demands to see an ID. So I showed her the ID and informed her I was able to order this beer at the bar, without being carded. I will never eat at this restaurant again, because of how rude they were to me and because of how inconsistently they enforced their “policy” — and to be honest, the food is only mediocre — we only eat here when it happens to be the closest and...
