Our family has been loyal customers of Manny's since 1995 in the Kansas City location and also in the Stanley, Kansas location. Hands down it has always been our favorite Mexican restaurant! Our last visit a week ago on a Saturday for lunch was absolutely terrible. Once we were seated we waited over 25 minutes for our server to come to the table and that was after we asked a busser to find our server. It was apparently a busy Saturday and we understood to a point. Our food came cold and wrong over 20 minutes later. Our server never did check back with us once our food was served by the food runner. No one checked back with us until the server brought our ticket. She asked how our food was with a huge smile and I said terrible. She asked me why and I described that our food order was incorrect and cold. The server rudely grabbed my plate and disappeared with it after telling us that she had checked back with us and we said everything was fine. That was an outright lie and her rudeness by grabbing my plate and disappearing without a word was unbelievable. 10 minutes later she reappeared and said she had been very busy at the back with other tables and was sorry we were not happy. She failed to apologize for her rude behavior to us. About 10 minutes later she showed back up at our table with the bill to say that she did not charge us for for my food. We gave her our credit card to pay. When she returned again and handed us our credit card we saw that she had charged another customer's larger ticket to our credit card. She disappeared again saying she would make the correction. Close to 25 minutes later she had not returned. We went to the front and found a manager who walked back to the table with us where we explained the problem. The manager's response was that we should have found someone to help place our food order initially and find someone when our food order was wrong and cold. The manager put the blame on us for the poor service and for not finding help sooner. Looking back, we understood how busy the restaurant was and we kept trying to be patient. She explained away the servers behavior as she had many tables. The manager went and got our credit card and returned 10 minutes later telling us that there was not a charge for either of our two meals. Wow--not the Manny's we loved for close to 30 years. We drove from south of Kansas City to visit Manny's that day because we felt it would be a great experience. Obviously it was not...
Read moreOh Manny’s.
I’ve been…maybe…five times total in my life and I really wasn’t ever interested in giving it another visit; definitely wasn’t planning on leaving a review - but, I found myself at Manny’s tonight just for beers and a quick bite so here we are.
When you walk in: it has that sort of stale smell just like when you walk in to a cheap hotel room where the air conditioner by the window is on full blast but it’s still way too humid and a bit cold. You get seated right away next to two no-reservation no-notice 12 tops and are greeted brusquely by a harried server with about 30 more people to take care of at one time than ought to be legal. Overall I was honestly impressed by the quick no nonsense service but…everything else sort of made me forget how speedy the server was.
I guess I’ll put it this way, if you’re the type of person that always wants to meet up with 8+ people for dinner and you definitely don’t want to just sit at two 4 person tables and definitely don’t want to make reservations, this might be your place. If you love having truckloads of mediocre food delivered to your table on a three tiered plastic cart, reminiscent of how cleaning products are moved in and out of that cheap hotel I mentioned earlier, this might be your place. If you enjoy dining at a place that has somehow survived for 40 years beyond its life expectancy, this just might be your place.
If this were the only place for Tex mex in town, I might turn a blind eye. But come on, this is Kansas City. We have the best Tex mex. We’re home to absolutely amazing Mexican and/or Tex mex food. There are so many better places I couldn’t possibly mention them all. Just do yourself a favor and pick a better spot than Manny’s.
I forgot to mention the icing on the cake. That 12 top that was sitting right by me? They asked for separate checks and one of the people dined and dashed. Server was looking all over for the check. I cannot believe the owners even allow that to happen. Could at least require one check or auto grat? Something to protect your servers.
Do yourself a favor and find one of the many great Tex Mex spots in Kansas City. (Oh and Margaritas and...
Read moreI made a reservation for 20 people for my fiance's birthday, for 745pm, several days before the event. When we arrived, we were told we would not be seated until all of our party had arrived. I said ok, but we had a few people that were going to arrive late. My fiance works at a car dealership and sometimes they have to stay late if they are in a deal, and we had many of her co-workers joining us for dinner. I waited for a fee more guests to arrive and asked if we could be seated. We were told no. We were all very hungry, and had we been seated, we would have ordered cocktails, and appetizers, etc resulting in more revenue for tour business. But instead we were upset and hungry. At about 830 we were finally seated, but told we could not order meals until everyone had arrived. Again, agitating everyone because by this point we were really hungry. Once we were finally able to order we were rushed because they closed at 10. So had we been seated earlier, we would have been able to order desserts, etc. Again resulting in more revenue. Our server was AMAZING her name was Katie and she took great care of our large party. Even though she was given 2 other large parties after we were seated. She was a rockstar. I understand that it is store policy that everyone be there before we are seated, but with large parties with people coming from all over, there should be an exception, because you lost revenue, and had upset customers. Let me just say... the restaurant at the time was not busy at all. There were open tables everywhere. At the end of our meal, we asked to speak to the manager. She was extremely rude, was rolling her eyes, not paying attention to what we were saying, not apologetic in any way and ended up storming off. This is extremely unprofessional. Our experience was not a great one, and due to this we wont be returning and I'm sure many of our guests wont be as well. I was very disappointed as we love...
