So this is my first time in an actual Peanut establishment. Food was amazing then again I always heard good things about the food. Although my service on the other hand was not so well. My brother, sister and I came in to watch the Chiefs game and enjoy some wings. My server (Sarah) comes up to the table takes our drink order and food order. My sister order a Margarita for her and my brother with no salt but sugar. Our server responded with they have no salt then walks away. Later after receiving our drinks turns out they did have salt, we then have to hunt our server down to get us a new drinks. The drinks were still salty which tells me she just wiped off the salt and put sugar on but they drunk it anyway. She didn’t come back to check on our table at all we had to holler excuse me across the bar to get her attention to come and check on our table. She walked past our table a few times and still didn’t check on us. Finally I caught the attention of someone else to bring us water. Like for real who just wants to get drunk for no reason. I need to be to be hydrated. Then after sitting there not even a hour yet finally come to the table to ask if she could tab us out for shift change. Like we wasn’t ready to go yet but I guess. Her attitude was ugly and we didn’t have a great time because of it. Who ever the shift change was. Sir I didn’t get your name but we were there to watch the last 15 mins of the game. You offered to do up my water like 3 times you checked on as multiple times and you made sure everyone was taking care off. And had a smile on the face. I guess I won’t completely count this...
Read moreHad to put my two cents in after reading all these negative reviews. Just know that those people are miserable and don’t know what they are talking about.
You come to The Peanut for their wings. Sure, they have other good menu options. But their wings are the best, order with blue cheese dressing side. You won’t be let down. The food is fresh.
This is a local dive bar and it’s old. With eclectic decor and many neighborhood regulars. Things are Jerry rigged, need updated, and maybe deep cleaned. The staff is always welcoming, but they never are staffed more than 2-3 people, from what I have seen. Usually it’s just a bartender/waiter and the cook. Sometimes a third person helps if it’s busy.
But that’s the beauty of The Peanut. You know you will have to wait to order, because the bartender is also the waiter and the bus boy. And he probably also helps the cook do dishes. Your food is made fresh, in the order it’s placed. So it will most likely take 30 minutes minimum to get to your table. For those of us who love to come here, we know the deal. It’s an unspoken reality. And we are all ok with it.
If you want a different atmosphere or service- try one of those white washed, gentrified locations north of the river or south of Kansas City. But it is not the same...
Read moreHave a comparison to The Peanut in North KC.
The Peanut in North KC: Was very happy with the one in north KC. The Food was good and came in a reasonable time. They told me 20 minute prep time for the wings and it was right on the dot when it came out to me. The wings lived up to the hype I had heard about them. They also use housemade ranch/blue cheese. My draft beer was served in a glass. The place was clean and comfortable.
The Peanut on main: Walked in and all the empty tables hadn't been bussed so I had to sit at the bar. The bar smelled like someone had recently vomited where I was sitting( literally no where else to sit). Took about 40 minutes to bring out the wings. The wings were okay, but not on the same level as the North KC location. Tasted like they bulk pre made salad ranch for the wings. Pretty sure it was hidden valley ranch (which I personally do not like). My draff beer was served to me in a plastic cup, and sure didn't taste like the beer that I ordered.
In conclusion, if you want The Peanut to live up to the hype that's spread around about it, avoid this particular location and drive the extra 15 minutes to the north town location (a lot easier to park there too). Haven't tried the other locations yet so I can't give any comparison...
