I don't usually leave negative reviews, but it feels like my civic duty in this instance. Every item tasted as though Mexican food had been poorly described over the phone by someone who had overheard someone else talking about it, and all parties involved were strongly averse to flavor. The tone of the entire experience was set when two ramekins of tomato-based sauce were placed before me and my date. One would assume this to be salsa, but several shocked tastes revealed this to be warmed marinara. Ragu-esque, possibly Prego. Certainly not salsa.
Our food arrived insanely fast. I ordered the #2, which lists a quesadilla among the items on the plate. What appeared before me was a corn tortilla with a layer of pale yellow liquid cheese spread on top of it. This is not my understanding of what a quesadilla is. Upon sampling this oversized nacho, the cheese tasted as though the preparer scooped out half a jar of Cheez-Whiz, replaced that volume with tepid water, and whisked it all together. For garnish, perhaps a little razzle dazzle, there was a smattering of grated white cheese that smelled like mop water on 1/8 of the tortilla.
The beef in the taco and enchilada was unlike any beef I've tasted before. Not only did it not have one grain of any known seasoning on it, but it was as though they cooked it, then thoroughly rinsed it with water to ensure no grease or flavor at all remained on the meat, resulting in grey-brown dry meat granules that only served to confuse the senses.
The enchiladas were rolled so tightly that they were more akin to the frozen taquitos you can find in the grocery store, but that would be a disservice to the good people at the José Olé frozen food factory. The sauce on the enchilada was liquid in texture but somehow still dry. It defied physics.
The rice didn’t just lack flavor—it somehow tasted empty. The beans had a whisper of what canned beans are supposed to taste like, but they were so smooth that they were almost aerated, and I don't mean this in a positive way. The fried taco also had Ragu on it, this time chilled. Not even the chips had salt on them. The chalupa never made an appearance.
The entire experience felt like we had slipped into a liminal space, or into some social experiment conducted by aliens unsuccessfully attempting to recreate what they had heard about one type of human food. We stumbled out of that dark restaurant, confused and hungry but fearful of adding anything on top of what was already sitting uncomfortably in our stomachs. We stared at the ceiling in the dark back home for several hours, trying to talk about what we had just experienced, but unable to find the adequate words. My boyfriend can't stop muttering, "It was marinara. They served us hot marinara." It will take me months to truly unpack what happened to us at...
Read moreLos corrals use to be the place my family and I would go to since I was a child. Downtown, with usual great food. Last night 1/24/2025 I suggested to my co workers that we meet there after work since the last time I went for lunch was great! We were very disappointed! We got there at 530 , I guess it was happy hr but our server never let us know. We first ordered our drinks , regular house margarita, it was NOT good and we our server know. We asked for something better , and she said happy hr was ending in five min and she would put in the double shot Margarita that was the same price as the one we just ordered.we had already been there for 30 min … and would have loved if she would have let is know. After we ordered our food it came out was not pleased. I tried one bite of everything (taco, enchilada, rice & beans) it was not hot, and didn’t taste fresh at all. Again I have been going there for almost 30 years , I know their potential. I sent my food back and resumed finishing my drink with chips and salsa. She brought us our checks right after and didn’t ask if we needed anything or if we wanted dessert… we suggested once we finished our drink and it was time to pay to our server that we might have wanted another drink , fried ice cream, or more chips… she mentioned that they were getting busy and she was sorry. (We were her second or third table in the area and the atmosphere was not a busy feeling as all very laid back) . Well she must have went and got her manager after that because about 2 min after we suggested we might have wanted something the manager walked up and said “hey, what’s up? What’s going on?”, with her hands on her hips and very confrontational. We asked her name since she had not introduced herself and explained what happened and she was far from empathetic or have a care in the world with how the service was. We had worked very hard ourselves that day in customer service and just wanted to have a few drinks food and food to go for our family at home. We will not be back after last night. I wouldn’t suggest this place anymore. The manager ruined the service even more yesterday after coming to our table. $60 tab and all of us usually tip very well (20-20%) , but this went from a $30 tip, to a $1 tip in the...
Read moreI do not like giving negative reviews but I seriously have to from our experience tonight! My family has been coming here since before I was born. And when I tell you that we will NEVER go back seriously breaks my heart.
The presentation of the tacos was nice but the Tacos were beyond greasy and the meat was gritty. The tacos were so greasy that the meat broke through the shell. The tops of the taco was the exact opposite. So hard that you could not bite them.
I am speechless over the salsa and to say that it was absolutely disgusting is giving it a compliment. I kid you not open a can of hunts tomato sauce, pour in a pan, turn your burner on high and scorch the life out of it and sprinkle some cumin in it… that is what we were served.
Cheese dip…. It was like watered down scorched off brand cheese whiz that had not been stirred all day. We tossed it all in the trash.
The rice…. What used to be the absolute BEST… was hands down the worst rice I have ever had in my entire life…. It was discolored white mush with small pieces of old dried up, hard rice stirred in.
Sadly I can’t even say anything nice about the chips… because they were store bought chips that were tossed into a fryer and thrown into a white paper bag.
The young woman that answered the phone and that was taking money was very nice!!! The shift manager was speechless and said that he was so sorry but they were training a new cook and that the general manager would reach out to me tomorrow. Issue is…. We were hungry tonight.
Waste of money, gas and without a doubt, spoiled my entire family’s appetite and really was looking forward to a great meal to also follow great conversation of taking my kids down memory lane on all of my memories from the “old” Los Corrals.
Edit: General Manager has never called or returned my...
