We stopped by Charcoal Eats in Katy today for dinner after doing some grocery shopping at Triveni Store nearby. First visit, and overall it was a great experience!
We ordered quite a spread: • Palak Patta Chaat • Chhole Aloo Chaat • Paneer Tikka Masala • Butter Garlic Naan & Butter Tandoori Roti • Awadhi Kathal (Jackfruit) Dum Biryani
The chaats were full of flavor—crispy, tangy, and nicely balanced. Both breads were fresh, soft, and perfect for scooping up the curries.
What stood out the most was the Awadhi Kathal Dum Biryani—I tried jackfruit biryani for the first time and absolutely loved it! It had layers of flavor, just the right amount of spice, and that slow-cooked dum aroma that made it feel special. A great surprise and now one of my new favorites!
The only letdown was the Paneer Tikka Masala. The paneer cubes were well-cooked, but the gravy tasted more like a regular curry—spice-heavy and missing the creamy, rich texture you’d expect from a tikka masala. It didn’t have that silky finish from cream or cashews, which made it feel more rustic than indulgent.
Overall, I’d rate the experience a solid 4 to 4.5 stars. Great food, friendly service, and definitely worth stopping by—especially if you’re in the mood to try something different like the...
Read moreSo we were looking for some new Indian restaurants online and Charcoal Eats Pop up. It’s not far from cypress, if you don’t mind driving 20-30mins. So we had a nice lunch at this place. The menu is pretty good and lots of verities. From Beverages to desserts everything is covered. So when we talk about Beverages we ordered Kala katha & Mango Lassi. Both the drinks were very good. Really like the Lassi because it wasn’t too sweet it was perfect. About the Appetizers we had Achari Paneer Tikka (Hot). It was delicious and if you think it’s really Hot Hot, no it wasn’t that spicy. It was mild spicy because my kids ate that too. So kids got complimentary fryums & they loved it. In main course we ordered Malai Kofta & Afghani Paneer Curry( Mild). Paneer Curry was really different then other restaurants and we really liked it. Malai Kofta it was delicious too. We had Bullet(Chilly Garlic) Butter Naan & Garlic Naan. Naan’s are crispy, not soft. But some people like crispy Naan, so for them their Naan’s are good. Service was great too. Atmosphere is nice as well. I really like their out door sitting area. Songs choice is great as well. Lite & calm music was playing at the background. Overall it’s a good experience. Definitely...
Read moreThis is the second time I got the food from them. However, experience was quite disappointing. I had heard a lot about Delhi Butter Chicken and Afghani curry. I have eaten authentic butter chicken at Moti Mahal in India and they were not even close to the flavors of butter chicken. All you get in their curries is charcoal flavor which tastes different may be to start with but the curry definitely lacks the richness and flavors of a true butter chicken, also it was more on the sour side. When you are eating chicken you want flavors of your chicken and gravy and should not give you the charcoal taste with every bite. Afghani chicken curry was very average, nothing special. Also none of the curries came with rice which is a standard every where for the price they are charging.
Coming to Hyderabad Chicken Dum Biryani which I was trying for the second time and that is the reason I came again but this time it appeared as I was eating pulao with some chicken curry with strong flavors of charcoal mixed with it. They should not call it Hyderabad chicken dum biryani as it was not even close to be called a...
