The food selection is adequate, but could benefit from a bit more variety .
The staff is responsive enough, however I did have an experience where I felt slightly harassed.
I'd visited with my boys and informed the reception staff that all of us would be eating. I did not immediately start eating as I wanted to ensure my boys made appropriate food choices and actually ate, especially my picky youngest.
In the space of 15 minutes, the same staff assigned to our table approached me repeatedly to ask me if I was going to be eating. Despite repeated responses in the affirmative, she kept returning to ask the same question, up to at least 8 or 9 times in about 15 minutes.
The place is a buffet. I'd already gotten my drink. It was not as if she needed to get my order to serve me a meal, so the repeated questions really were unnecessary.
On a different, more recent occasion, I visited with some friends and their restroom happened to be flooded. (We only realized the source of the flooding afterwards). The flooding from the restroom seeped through to the eating area.
I would have left at this point if I were alone, but we had very hungry kids with us that had been patiently waiting to eat after a long drive, so we stayed.
When we arrived, they attempted to seat us close to the flooded area, but we requested to be seated away from the from there. They did move us a few tables away.
A few minutes after we sat down, they brought out a machine and proceeded to vacuum up the flood water. It was extremely loud and uncomfortable. We had to shout to communicate with one another at the table. I had to walk over and request that they stop as it was hard to enjoy our meal in that atmosphere. They responded to the request and stopped the vacuuming.
I appreciate the fact that they stopped the loud vacuuming upon request. However, I think the better thing to do would have been to briefly close the restaurant until the flood situation was contained. Of note, the place is quite large. There were many empty tables across the large hall on the other side that they could sit guests. Far enough away that the noise from the vacuuming would be mimimized, and equally creating distance from the flood water.
I do not think I'd be going back...
Read moreI have to start this review with a somewhat "bipolar" view. I tried this buffet because it is close to everything here in Old Town Katy and must be harshly honest when I say I dreaded going in but in order for all Google Map users to get and honest review I needed to venture into the unknown myself!! Where to begin...the decor is really outdated and it has the vibe of a place that time forgot. The worst part for me is the dreadful closed blinds. If it's owners would only invest in some window tinting it would really open up the space and allow some light ( I know I'm reviewing the food...).. The food was OK and if they would adjust the steam table to the right temperature it would be even better. I really liked that they have reasonable prices for a weekend buffet which was a little under $12.00 and they did have the Alaskan crab legs and shrimp on the buffetts table. They also don't make you show your childs birth certificate to charge you the kids buffet price. I did not witness any roaches like one of the reviews here mentions, trust me when I say I looked.. I did notice that the waitresses really took time to clean the eating area once patrons left their table. But do stick to the soda because the iced tea was dreadful. This restaurant gave me the feel that it's owners are trying hard to bring it back to its glory days and I certainly hope they continue working on it. Katy really needs a Chinese buffet with good food and decent prices. I will defenitely stop by again once I see that the blinds are gone from...
Read moreSo, we ate here today. I really enjoyed the food. They have real ice cream, which I thought was really cool.when it came time to pay, my husband used his card and did not leave a tip on the slip. (We were going to leave cash on the table.) The waitress ( the young, slender, girl with box bangs past her eyebrows,) rudely chastised my husband for not adding it on the slip with a Chineese accent. She was so arrogant, that we then decided not to tip her. We accedently left my son's spiderman jacket inside. She did bring it out, shoved it at my husband and said (with no accent) "and you didn't even leave a tip." Then glared from the door at us. I'm sorry, you're rude. You brought us a drink and took 3 plates away. Maybe, if you weren't do darn arrogant and entitled, we would have given you a tip. We don't tip rude. And we won't be back. Also, as long time Katy people, we know a lot of people who will no longer be dining there. I hope her boss reads this to her. She was working today's lunch (february 2, 2015 ) around 11:00 and we sat in a booth closest to the buffet to the left as...
