Our group of friends like to eat out on weekends. We heard about this new Japanese restaurant and decided to give it a trial. The store front was inconspicuous, easily missed as it is nested in a roll of stores. Inside, the restaurant was well lit and cozy. They accommodated 14 of us at a long table. We sampled both hot and cold appetizers. The delicious baked scallop, crab meat, and masago was sensational. It was presented in a bowl on a flaming platter. I love the stuffed jalapeno, but some found it a bit too hot. The shrimp and vegetable tempura were good and the batter of the calamari light and crispy. The seared white tuna with roast garlic was delicate, even without the sauce. The refreshing steamed soy bean could be cooked a bit longer for my own taste. We enjoyed the rolls and salmon teriyaki . We were impressed by the Love Boat, a variety of sashimi, sushi, rolls and trimmings artistically arranged in a boat serving as the platter. Even though we were full, we couldn’t pass the tempting dessert: tempura banana with green tea ice cream. Oh, I also like the cold sake served in an elegant carafe with an ice pocket. The two serving staffs were efficient and attentive. We were pleasantly surprised by this little new restaurant. We will definitely return whenever we crave for...
Read moreI just came back from this Japanese restaurant to celebrate my new job with whole family. We got there a quarter before 7pm, and seems we were the only group of customer to eat there this Saturday. I am very rarely write a review as well, but I write this one because I like to share with you if you are looking for a good Japanese restaurant like me. Go there and you won't regret it, it is my suggestion. I ordered the House Special Poke Bowl, extra large one which you can pick four types different fish to match with your rice (sushi rice or fried rice), It was a very high quality preparation considering the fresh sea fish and the big bowl. I was very pleased. I ordered the Teriyaki beef (grilled, and sealing hot) for my son, and the grilled Teriyaki shrimp for my mom, they were both happy, especially the shrimp. The Tempura is also deserved to try it. I also like to point it out, this is not a fancy stand alone store despite the good quality food, it is one of the store surrounding by other store in a plaza. If a fancy and highly decorated restaurant is the one you are looking for, you have to find somewhere else.
So, I recommend...
Read moreThis is a quaint but very decent place for sushi. Very casual and no frills restaurant that we frequent. Happy Hour is a nice touch to sample smaller plates.
Food 4 /5 : We usually go here on a Friday night, as this is the time when they have the freshest sushi. The food ranges from okay to good. Their salmon sushi is probably the best thing on their menu. I also like their seafood fried rice. Nothing really stands out from most of you sushi places found in Houston.
Service: 5/5: The owner and their staff is extremely friendly. They are very personable and always willing to help. Service is quick and to the point. This is where they really shine - their service!
Pricing 4/5: My opinion is that they are slightly over-priced for a "normal" sushi place. It is not overly expensive but I would expect slightly lower pricing. A normal roll runs around $11-$14 but I can spend that much and get really quality sushi somewhere else. If they kept it between $8 to $12 I think they would have earned 5 stars.
Overall good place and quick service. I...
