Loved Chuy's!
We were coming home from a week long winter vacation. We stumbled on Chuy's and actually didn't even know we were there! It was NYE and we just got in to Atlanta after driving all day. We looked at Google Maps for restaurants and saw On the Border which we are big fans of. We went there but there was no hostess to be found a quite a few people waiting. We left and decided to go to the Chevy's down the road which we are also big fans of.
Turns out none of us can read cursive writing and Chevy's was actually Chuy's which is a chain I had never heard of. We didn't realize we were in Chuy's until we ordered our food and noticed it on the menu. No wonder I didn't recognize the logo or insanely colorful dining area. I felt like a kid entering Willy Wonka's factory for the first time when we opened the door. And we were happy to see a hostess waiting at the counter.
Our server was Jeff and he was pretty great! We had ordered fajita's for two but vegan style (no meat, cheese or sour cream). He was nice and doubled checked if the rice and beans were vegan. At this point I still thought I was at Chevy's and was surprised they didn't have black beans. Once we realized we were at Chuy's I Googled it and found the rice and beans were indeed vegan (I should have just trusted Jeff and the kitchen). Which, I got to say, big thanks to Chuy's for not ruining rice and beans with chicken stock and lard!
My youngest son ordered a couple of chicken tacos and my oldest had a big plate of nachos. Our fajita's for two was very generously sized and really, really delicious. The house made flour tortillas were killer! I actually have a tortilla press at home I've never used (Santa left it last Christmas -- over a year ago). I'm going to get that thing out and make my own flour tortillas now. They were so freaking good!
We almost didn't end up here and when we did walk in the doors we didn't realize it was something different. On the Border and Chevy's are great but I think Chuy's might be better! Thanks to Jeff and everyone else working NYE. After a long day of travel it was a nice surprise to have what was my favorite meal of the whole trip. I will definitely keep my eye out for Chuy's when we...
Read moreWe paid for our dinner on their website. They have a qr code option for paying your bill. We were followed to the front door by our waitress in a private detective fashion with her sneaking through the kitchen then popping out of nowhere to stare us down. She said nothing and we just kept walking out the door. I was extremely uncomfortable though when she proceeded to stare us down while we got in our car through the restaurant window. She was I assume getting our tag number as if we just walked out without paying our check. I am extremely upset we were treated this way. I called the restaurant and spoke with the manager, John, which immediately made up some bogus story that she was helping him to hold the door for customers is why we were followed. What? Like you look silly saying that because there was NOBODY else around. Just admit you thought we were walking out without paying our check and you were mistaken. Our waitress was named Amanda - she needs to be trained on checking the system or asking the customer if they paid before acting shady like she did. That was highly unprofessional. If you're going to treat your customers that way, then stop allowing them to pay via QR code - she never even came by after we paid so that's why we couldn't even let her know we paid. So frustrating. Also, the music from the kitchen should not be heard in the dining room. The music playing for the kitchen plus music playing in your eating area is too much. Choose one or the other. I asked the waitress why it was so loud and her response was they do it that way at dinner and it's more quiet during...
Read moreMy husband, kids and I were traveling for work and stopped at the Chuy's at 585 Ernest W Barrett Pkwy NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144 this past Sunday night (March 24th). My youngest son is 18 months old and has a severe dairy allergy, and I am still nursing him, so by extension I can't have dairy either, so eating at restaurants is often challenging and we tend to just avoid it altogether. In the almost year that we have been dairy free, I have never had such attentive and caring service than we had Sunday night. Our waiter (whose name I unfortunately cant remember, but I remember his name started with an F) was absolutely incredible, as was the manager that was working that night (we were there later, probably around 8 or 9pm). They went to the kitchen multiple times to get specific ingredient list, communicated our needs to the kitchen and had both mine and my sons food cooked separately as to avoid as much cross contamination as possible. We've never had such a pleasant and worry free experience since we found out about our sons allergy. I just wanted to pass the word along in hopes that the manager and waiter know how much we appreciate everything they did for us. They deserve some...
