The decoration and atmosphere were wonderful but that stops about there for Pookie's Patisserie. I got a "Croissant Donut" and a "Mixed-Berry Tart." It was 16 dollars. The display tart had raspberries on top while the one they gave me did not and the pastries were not great. The croissant donut was just that: 50% as good as a regular glazed donut and 50% as good as a buttery croissant. The donut had a stale taste to it that just stayed in your mouth, and the layers from the croissant were good to look at but were too dense to be a croissant, which is supposed to be light and fluffy. I didn't even finish the donut because of that stale taste to it. The tart was okay, not much to say on it, there wasn't a lot of the mixed berry filling for 8 dollars. The people at the counter were nice but their checkout system isn't built well so it takes a while to get checked out. Although, they did prioritize checking out some couple who was eating in the café instead of me, who was taking out and was there before them, it would have been fine if the girl who was starting to ring me up didn't get interrupted and get told to ring up the couple first. Really weird. There is not a lot of space in the shop itself so if you're a bigger person or a person in a wheelchair, it might be a little inconvenient to move around to look at their choices.
Overall, pretty too look at but really, it's just a rebranded...
Read moreI was really excited about this place when I heard it was opening, but I soon learned that all of their treats are actually purchased elsewhere (the macarons are ordered online). They don't make anything in-house except the coffee. This was disappointing and it made the whole place feel a bit fake to me. But I decided to try a few macarons anyway. Unfortunately after purchasing a half dozen macarons to taste test, I found out that I was charged for the physical box they came in, in addition to the actual cookies. What?? Never in my life have I been charged for the box that the cookies come in before, and I've bought from several macaron sellers in and out of state. It made me wonder how on earth they would have given me the cookies if I had asked for no box. Would they have just had me hold out my hands and dumped the pile of macarons into my waiting palms? Anyway, it just really surprised me looking at the bill and seeing that charge. Being charged for the take-out container that the food comes in has now become something of an inside joke in my household. Despite all that, I think this place is super cute, I just wish they actually made the...
Read moreI recently visited Pookies and had a mixed experience. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful, which made a positive impression. However, I found the prices to be on the higher side, with a small cup of coffee costing $7 compared to $4.50 at Starbucks. While I personally did not enjoy my coffee, my wife found hers satisfactory, and the pastries were delightful.
The primary issue I encountered was with the owner. As a business owner, I believe it is essential to be approachable and engaged with customers. Unfortunately, this was not the case during my visit. Despite a long line of patrons, the owner appeared disengaged, neither assisting her staff nor interacting with customers. Instead, she passed back and forth through the shop before ultimately leaving. A simple gesture, such as a friendly check-in to ensure everything was satisfactory, would have significantly improved my...
