The service here is very friendly -- the staff are simply wonderful. The food, however, was slow to come out, and was pretty bad. The halibut was overcooked and dry to the point that it made you feel bad that the fish gave up its life for this. It was so leathery that it was actually difficult to cut through, especially around the edges. The salmon burger wasn't fresh salmon, but was a prepackaged/frozen thing -- and, even with that, we've still had better frozen salmon patties at home. But who expects to find prepackaged and frozen in the Salmon Capital of the World? Even the French Fries weren't very good. Pioneer Cafe made up for all of this by charging a lot for the food. 😉 Okay, I'm kidding -- as far as Ketchikan prices are concerned, Pioneer Cafe is actually one of the less expensive joints in town -- but not cheap enough to make up for the quality of the food. The service was really friendly, but I still recommend going elsewhere. We heard from some locals that the Alaskan Fish House is very good.

One of my favorite stops of our trip food wise. While adventuring through the town on foot we came across the Pioneer Cafe by chance. My favorite thing g to do of course is get eggs Benedict everywhere I possibly can so I was pleased to see the chance here. We definitely lucked out and did not have to wait to be seated. It was definitely a miracle as everyone and their mom was getting off their cruise ships at the same time. This location gives off an old diner vibe and I’m here for it. Our server was phenomenal and while he was very funny, he was also efficient and kind. The food was delicious and definitely hit the spot .

Amazing cafe in downtown Ketchikan. I went before the cruise ships arrived and it was great. Not crowded, locals having some breakfast and coffee. I stop here for breakfast every year while in town for a day before our fishing trip in Thorne Bay. The Country Breakfast is huge and worth the $18. Staff is friendly and service is pretty quick. Today they said there are 13,000 tourist coming into port so if you’re looking for a breakfast spot and you’re on one of the cruise ships I would head here right after getting off the ship to beat the crowds. If you live a local cafe for breakfast then you’ll love Pioneer Cafe.

This is a cute mom & pop style diner with Rte 66 and 50’s American themes. Also, conveniently located a hop over from creek street. They offer traditional American breakfast for a decent price. Both my wife and I ordered the 2x French toast breakfast. It was great. Coffee was good and refills were timely. I did find it odd, however, that on the menus half-sized portions are available but only a dollar cheaper than the full-sized option. Seems strange to offer it in the first place. The customer service was good. Expect about $40-45 for two people.

Don't come here if you're already hungry. It took 23 minutes to get this Reindeer hotdog that was 16 bucks. We were told not to eat off of the boat because they take advantage of tourists, but we did it anyway. The 23 minutes isn't including the time we were sitting there as a waiter and waitress stood there giggling and gossiping and basically ignoring us. No "oh I'm sorry it's taking so long" or any explanation. We were about to walk out when our disappointing meal came. It's a nice LOOKING place but eat somewhere else.

Great little greasy spoon in the heart of Ketchikan. Stopped by twice this week, once for breakfast and once for lunch. The taco salad omelette was huge and delicious, and the service was prompt and courteous. Grabbed the Reuben for lunch and wasn’t near as fond of it as the delicious omelette, but did really enjoy the fries. A coworker ordered a milkshake with white cream and it was evident there was a bit of artistry that went into its creation!
