The service here is very friendly -- the staff are simply wonderful. The food, however, was slow to come out, and was pretty bad. The halibut was overcooked and dry to the point that it made you feel bad that the fish gave up its life for this. It was so leathery that it was actually difficult to cut through, especially around the edges. The salmon burger wasn't fresh salmon, but was a prepackaged/frozen thing -- and, even with that, we've still had better frozen salmon patties at home. But who expects to find prepackaged and frozen in the Salmon Capital of the World? Even the French Fries weren't very good. Pioneer Cafe made up for all of this by charging a lot for the food. 😉 Okay, I'm kidding -- as far as Ketchikan prices are concerned, Pioneer Cafe is actually one of the less expensive joints in town -- but not cheap enough to make up for the quality of the food. The service was really friendly, but I still recommend going elsewhere. We heard from some locals that the Alaskan Fish House is very good.

One of my favorite stops of our trip food wise. While adventuring through the town on foot we came across the Pioneer Cafe by chance. My favorite thing g to do of course is get eggs Benedict everywhere I possibly can so I was pleased to see the chance here. We definitely lucked out and did not have to wait to be seated. It was definitely a miracle as everyone and their mom was getting off their cruise ships at the same time. This location gives off an old diner vibe and I’m here for it. Our server was phenomenal and while he was very funny, he was also efficient and kind. The food was delicious and definitely hit the spot .

Amazing cafe in downtown Ketchikan. I went before the cruise ships arrived and it was great. Not crowded, locals having some breakfast and coffee. I stop here for breakfast every year while in town for a day before our fishing trip in Thorne Bay. The Country Breakfast is huge and worth the $18. Staff is friendly and service is pretty quick. Today they said there are 13,000 tourist coming into port so if you’re looking for a breakfast spot and you’re on one of the cruise ships I would head here right after getting off the ship to beat the crowds. If you live a local cafe for breakfast then you’ll love Pioneer Cafe.

Title: A Blast From the Past at Pioneer Cafe!

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Five Stars)

As I sit down to pen my review of Pioneer Cafe, I am compelled to sing praises of their exquisite seafood delights. Prepare yourself for an otherworldly dining experience, as I delve into the richness and splendor of two extraordinary dishes: the Halibut and Chips and the Seafood Basket.

Let's begin with the pièce de résistance, the Halibut and Chips. From the moment this divine creation graced my booth, I knew I was in for a treat. The halibut, a marvel of the sea, was perfectly cooked to achieve a delicate balance between tenderness and flakiness. The golden brown, crispy batter enveloping the fish spoke volumes of the culinary mastery at Pioneer Cafe. Each bite revealed a symphony of flavors - a harmonious blend of oceanic freshness and the satisfying crunch of expertly prepared chips. This dish is truly an epicurean masterpiece, leaving a lasting impression that shall forever tempt my taste buds.

Next, I discovered an oceanic treasure trove in the form of the Seafood Basket. This extravagant medley not only showcased the chef's creativity but also captured the essence of the ocean's bounty. The scallops, like succulent pearls, were plump and tender, embodying the epitome of elegance. The clams, bathed in their briny existence, provided a burst of oceanic umami that awakened my senses. As I savored each perfectly cooked shrimp, I marveled at the epitome of crustacean perfection. Finally, the vivacious combination of vibrant french fries elevated this seafood extravaganza to new heights, both in presentation and in flavor.

At Pioneer Cafe, every morsel has been meticulously crafted to deliver an extraordinary experience brimming with culinary excellence. From the impeccable frying technique to the thoughtful seafood selection, each dish embodies the essence of oceanic indulgence. Infused with the zest of innovation and the mastery of gastronomy, the Halibut and Chips and Seafood Basket are undoubtedly the crowning achievements of Pioneer Cafe's culinary brilliance.

In conclusion, allow me to bestow upon Pioneer Cafe the highest accolade of five stars. A visit to this establishment guarantees a culinary escapade filled with superlative flavors, an oceanic symphony on your palate. It is only befitting that Pioneer Cafe firmly establishes itself as a beacon of gourmet excellence in the realm of seafood delicacies.

We were in town visiting family and went here on a Saturday and Sunday night. We stopped in for dessert. The waitress was an older woman, her behavior towards us was very odd. She was on the verge of hostile. It was myself, my two sisters, and my daughter. The first night she took my daughters order only and walked away. She came back later and took my order and one of my sisters orders and walked away again. She did not take my other sisters order at all!! We were very put off by this! She seemed annoyed that we were there. I shared my dessert with my sister and we didn’t push it thinking we would just get out of there! The second night we went hoping someone else would be working. There was only one other booth of customers there and she hardly acknowledged us. We ordered pie we had barely gotten it when she walked by and hastily put our paper ticket face down on our table without saying anything. She made us feel like we were not welcome, we didn’t finish our dessert and hurried out of there. It was pretty much the only place open besides bars after 8 pm. I do not write many reviews but the service was terrible, definitely would not go back if she...

While on our Alaskan Disney cruise, we prefer to visit less-frequented locations, so we selected this destination. Unfortunately, it was a bad decision. When the server came to take our order, she asked if we wanted anything to drink, and before my wife could answer, the server walked away. We ordered the cold tuna sandwich with fries ($14.99) for our daughter. My wife ordered a cup of chili ($7.50), and I ordered the Cambridge burger ($19). The burger was quite good. The chili was mediocre, and the tuna sandwich was basically canned tuna and a little mayonnaise. While inside, about four tables were occupied. After eating for about twenty minutes, water refills did not arrive. Once we finished eating, my wife went to pay, and while standing in line, the larger bald worker started making fun of the "rat boats" bringing all the screaming children. Then he went on to make a very poor impersonation of Mickey Mouse, all while complaining about the tourists. The locals call the place the "Pile"; I don't know why, but when talking to other shop owners, that's what they referred to it as. If not for the rude comments and bad service, I would have probably given the place...
