I live in KW and have always considered Antonia's one of the best Italian restaurants in town. Very hi end cuisine. However I was disappointed on my last visit. I ordered the Fettuccine with Button & Shitake Mushrooms. It did list Garlic and Asparagus as the ingredients which was fine with me. Unfortunately, there were very few button or Shitake mushrooms and the overwhelming flavor of the dish was Asparagus. It was really the only flavor that stood out. Fettuccine with Button & Shitake Mushrooms should taste like Fettuccine with Button & Shitake Mushrooms. The really should rewrite the menu so people know they will be getting fettuccine with asparagus and a hint of mushroom and garlic. I like asparagus, but it wasn't the flavor I was looking for on a night out of fine dining. Also, when I mentioned it to the waiter, not as a complaint, more of a critique, the waiter knew exactly what I was saying, he agreed and gave me the impression it was a common comment from diners ordering this dish. He was very polite and his service was great throughout dinner, but a waiter of his caliber should let customers know that asparagus, not the mushrooms will be the dominant flavor when they order as a courtesy. I had the Escargot appetizer which I enjoyed. It had a hint of citrus, which I've never had with escargot before, but the waiter told me when I ordered it, so I was aware of what I was getting. My wife ordered the filet and enjoyed her dinner as well. I'm only giving 3 stars for this meal and I will...
Read moreThis restaurant from online and outside looks absolutely gorgeous. However, if you're sober or a couple who doesn't drink with meals, expect your service to be less than. Our server asked if we were having any wine or cocktails, and we respectfully said no. Then watched the tables surrounding were treated slightly differently. The bread is on the menu as in you purchase it, so be sure to understand it comes with just oil. We did know and would've liked butter with ours as well since other tables received butter with theirs aside from just the oil. The caesar salads are covered with anchovies which I don't mind, however my wife does so if you don't like anchovies save yourself the money and order a different salad or an appetizer the dressing itself is very heavy in fish flavor. I ordered the special which was tuna steak and was shocked that it was more medium than rare, which I didn't like too much since the more cooked it is the more similar it is to a can of tuna. My wife got a pasta dish and asked to add grilled chicken, and they did beautifully. At the end of our meal, we had their coffee, and that was delicious. But decided to get dessert somewhere else on duval street. The inside has an ambiance for romantic type of dinner. Glad we went, don't think we'll go back however there wasn't anything that had...
Read moreI had the homemade pasta lasagna. The sauce was really good, the pasta was really delish, BUT! Lets start with what a lasagna should be: A lasagna is a construction of multiple layers of pasta, cheese, and meat sauce (or a vegetarian sauce if you prefer) which is then baked. Traditionally this is constructed and baked in a shallow dish that is the origin of the name. There should be a balance of the three major components, and the right amount of sauce/liquid which is wet, combined with the right amount of cheese and pasta which is more dry. A good pasta is obviously the key ingredient, and there should be enough pasta to make a strong statement. What I got at Antonias was a pie dish full of meat soup, with a few lonely leaves of pasta that had floated to the bottom of the dish. There might have been cheese but it was not detectable as a separate component. There were no layers. Not a lasagna, but a very tasty sauce dumped on pasta in a dish. I guessed that the homemade pasta (which is a speciality of the house) is expensive, so they skimped on it. the result was tasty, but ultimately a disappointment. I actually took about half of it home and used it as a pasta sauce, since after i scarfed up the few lonely leaves of pasta on the bottom of my dish at Antonias, I basically had spagetti...
