Upon arrival we were told the wait would be approximately 50 minutes which was fine. This is our 4th year coming up to the area for an annual gathering and would be our 3rd time dining here(no issues on either of those occasions). We were told we could grab some drinks at the bar as we waited. There were 9 total of us. We spent the morning snow mobiling and after and afternoon break were ready to eat. We order some drinks at the bar closed our tab out with the bartender and were told our table was ready.
We were sat and we ordered a round of drinks we put an order in for appetizers. Appetizers were good and were out in a timely manner. We placed our order in for our entrees. Mostly steaks all around . This is the point at which things went extremely south at this restaurant. All the food was ordered at approximately 8:30pm and at 9:45pm we were still waiting for our meals it took well over an hour for us to finally send someone to ask about our meals. This wasn't even the deal breaker. The waitress who was courteous and kind up to this point assured us the food was en route.
When the food began arriving the food was not hot. The chef came out with the waitress which I found odd as he didn't check on us he just stood there which appeared to be to see if we had complaints. My steak specifically was lukewarm the butter on top of my steak was solid and was not melting. The mash potatoes were cold. This was consistent throughout the table. We decided to state our discontent with the meals to the waitress and she grabbed the plate from the customer at which time she went back towards the kitchen area. At no time was an apology given to us or an attempt to rectify the situation. "Would you like me to have the chef put it back on the grill?" (At minimum would have been nice)
When she returned we collectively decided to make our complaints known as the food is expensive here and if we are paying those prices the food should be to our satisfaction. The waitress went back to the Kitchen area and after 5 minutes a young blonde haired boy by the name of Kyle who stated he was the restaurant manager asked what was wrong. We all informed him that we had waited so long to get our meals only to receive cold entrees and that we were not going to consume them as they were. He went back to the kitchen spoke to who I assume was kitchen staff and then returned to say that all of the items were cooked to a specification and that everything was to temp and satisfactory. We told him it wasn't. All the food was on the table for him to see. The solid butter refusing to melt for cold steak.
His answer was "well it was made properly and you will have to pay for the food and drinks you guys ordered" this was an immediate and deliberate slap to the face of 9 patrons at this ski town restaurant. I immediately informed him that we would not pay for food we were unsatisfied with and which we were not going to consume. At no point did he ask how he could make things right. He maintained a disrespectful and smug appearance.
He left the table and returned only to state that he was taking 2! TWO! Steaks off the bill and that if we didn't pay he would be calling the police! I immediately informed him that as a customer I did not care if he called the police and that he could do so if he wishes and asked to speak directly to him.
While addressing this young boy by the name of Kyle he scoffed in my face as if something was comical. I told him that the time it took for our meals was not the issue. The issue was that by the time our food came it was cold. I told him that was unacceptable and that his arrogance and inability to understand the problem, was a major failure for The Foundry and him as a "Manager". He walked away and came back for a bill of almost $700 and we paid the BILL and left.
I've eaten at countless restaurants ranging from street side eateries to 5 star restaurants across the globe. I HAVE NEVER EXPEREIENCED SUCH RUDE AND UNACCEPTABLE service from an...
Read moreAs a bar for apres ski festivities, the Foundry stands up pretty well in Killington. The beer selection is good, including plenty of craft brews and some local suds. The wood paneled bar area, stage for live music, and big couch in the back make for an incredibly relaxing night after a long day on the slopes.
However, as what is widely lauded as Killington’s premier dining establishment, I found it lacking. The wait was abysmal. We were quoted six parties in front of us, which would somehow be a 1.5 hour wait. Granted, they have a limited number of tables, but at nearly 9:00 at night, this seemed high. Still, we decided to wait with some drinks at the bar. Checking in on the app an hour later, we found we were down to four parties in front of us still. At this point we were nearly asleep at the bar from a day skiing, so decided if we weren’t close to being seated, we’d find something else. Upon checking back in, I was told it would be a mere five more minutes. When ten minutes passed, I checked in with the hostess again, who had somehow forgotten who I was though no one else had spoken to her in that time, and we were the only group waiting. Luckily, her incompetence was checked by another hostess who finally seated us. I can’t help believe that if I had checked in with the other hostess first, or checking in much earlier, we would have been immediately seated. As it was, we were among the last seatings of the night and the majority of the tables were empty.
Beside the poor hostess situation, service was pretty good with warmth and fairly fast. The food was good, but largely average, perhaps due to trying to live up to the hype I had heard. The food would be a decent if slightly below average seafood restaurant in NYC. The risotto tots were good but were a bit starchy and felt a bit premade. The buffalo drumstix were nice huge legs of chicken with a tasty buffalo sauce, but clearly doused in the sauce after cooking, so it didn’t permeate the skin. The catch of the day, a snapper with a fruity salsa was quite nicely cooked, though the salsa could have been a little brighter and fresher tasting. The scallop ravioli were also on the starchy side, and the scallops were a little rubbery to my taste. And the pork chop was well cooked and tender, though slightly dry.
The ambiance is nice with an upscale ski lodge feel, but for the price there are better options...
Read moreI've had good meals in killington, and I've had poor meals from good restaurants who were obviously overwhelmed/understaffed. The Foundry made me feel like I got taken. It's a sophomoric effort from a chef who doesn't understand his/her food coupled with an ineffective dining room manager. The positive: atmosphere, live jazz, table settings. The negative:
Would I go back for a burger or drinks? Absolutely. But I won't be suckered in by their "chef-driven" menu...
