Extremely fresh 100% Authentic Puerto Rican home made dishes of every kind you'd can think of. Pork, Beef & Fish prepared in a variety of ways. White rice, beans, with a variety of stew made with beef or pork, huge fresh cut veggies, fresh fish, shrimp. The entire place is extremely clean, the staff is very friendly, professional, bi-lingual. Their uniforms all very clean, hair all pinned up tightly, no giant fake nails either. If I see any place where the staff's hair is down & allowed to wear them filthy fake nails I immediately leave. Because in my personal & professional opinion is a HUGE NO NO when it comes to anyone who works in food service. They knew every item on the menu. This place is like going home & Tia has a plate of rice & beans waiting. (although NO ONE CAN EVER MAKE FOOD AS GREAT & PERFECT AS MY TIA PAPITAS!) The day we went was a weekday around 3pm & it was totally packed with customers whom most were locals & some visitors. Which my husband & myself being from Milwaukee, Wisconsin missed my own homemade cooking. My husband is Puerto Rican (Taino) & I am Oneida (Native American Indian). Being on a mini vacation we were looking for a nice place to have a good meal with our niece. She told us about a different PR restaurant that she went to but was unable to locate that one. We found Tropico Mofongo via Google Maps & what a GREAT choice we made. We left there so full & very satisfied that we made sure to order extra plates to go. The combo plates were ONLY $5.99! If you're ever in the mood for some real authentic fresh Puerto Rican food be sure to go here & be prepared to never want to leave...when you do leave you will surely order several...

I'll start with the positives. Food is outstanding. Absolutely delicious. We watched people order to go boxes from the line and the portions were huge. That's the route we should have gone. Instead we requested a table to eat in the small restaurant. That's when things went south really quick. We stood there waiting for at least 15 minutes while they waited for 2 small tables to become available to fit a party of 6. We ended up losing our patience and spilt up our party into 2 tables that were not next to each other. Each table had a different waitress that took each table's order. Once a table cleared allowing us all to sit together, they were kind enough to move us. For drinks my parents were brought soda cans with a cup of ice and the rest of us were brought fountain drinks. Apparently you need to specify? I'm not sure. The food came out very quickly but we were never given utensils. We had to flag down a different waiter for utensils. Later we asked them to refill our fountain drinks. Our drinks came about 10 minutes later. When we asked for the check our bill came with everything combined into one. We placed two orders and were expecting to be billed that way. They quickly split the bill for us. The people that work there are very nice but their service skills lack. People would leave and the tables sat there dirty for quite so time. If they could improve the restaurant service, I'd highly recommend. For now I'd say order from the line to avoid the...

Maybe I’m just a California native used to spicy Mexican food, but the style of food just didn’t hit the spot for me. To start, I ordered “salsa” which they told me was not spicy, but is something I need for this type of food. I’m the type of person who carries tapatio with me everywhere and will add I to cup o noodles or a sandwich. Anyway, the salsa was like a creamy soup. Maybe I got the wrong item? I don’t know and will never know as our order was takeout. I got the chicharron with mofongo and fried chicken dinner while my GF ordered the chicken breast dinner. The mofongo was actually the best part of the meal. Like mashed potatoes with bit of flies pork goodness. Tasted better with tapatio, of course. The chicharron and fried chicken were ok, but way too chewy. Not crunchy like I’m used to which is the Mexican style, which is called chicharron con carne due to the extra meat chunks that come with the fried skin. Chicken was ok, but a bit bland. Happy to have tried the something different. Similar to Cuban food, if you ask me, except the Mofongo was unique. Don’t order the salsa unless you want cream soup :) Service was good, but they were busy and it took a while for the food. Pro tip: call ahead if you know what you want for takeout and save yourself some time.
