I do not normally post any reviews, but I do love Rubios, so I want to make sure that this issue is addressed.
We’ve been coming here, to the Grossmont location for the last 4 years since we moved to La Mesa. We live right down the street. We always get the same thing. The food is great pretty much all of the time. Sometimes small things are forgotten, but for the most part, they do a good job. My favorite is the Californa Bowl because I can sub in brown rice, and the salsa is delicious.
My issue happened today, as well as a few months ago. They have this new answering system that does not take you straight to the store. This is understandable, because they’re busy! The problem is that a few months ago I was put on hold while I was driving home back from a 12 hr shift at work and I wanted to grab some food for me and my wife. I was about a 15 min drive from Rubios so I ordered through my car. I was put on hold as soon as the call was picked up, and I very politely waited...... For 12 minutes, until I arrived at the location, still on hold, and I walked up to the counter that was no longer busy, with the cashier just standing there. I told her that this happened and showed her my phone that I was still waiting. She seemed to realize her mistake and quickly apologized. I didn’t make a big deal of it at all, but I figured she’d say something so that it could be addressed. I don’t like being “that customer.”
Today, I call again to order, and get put on hold... 5 minutes in I hang up and call back. The cashier picks up almost immediately, and seems confused (maybe he was training, but I gave him my name and his next question was “will that be all? It was a little funny, if I wasn’t already annoyed). Then he said something along the lines of “I mean, uh, yeah.” I reply “yeah, what?” And then he proceeds to remember where he was and took my order (very well I might add once he woke up).
Rubios Grossmont, we’ve been to your restaurant well over 50 times in the last 4 years (conservative number). This is the type of issue that draws people like me away. I like your food, and I want to continue to eat there, but it’s a simple fix and I think that you would benefit from addressing the issue at the next staff meeting, maybe putting in some incentives out there, changing the phone so that the held call has a louder alert, or maybe just having some sort of marking that employees are required to do when they put a call on hold so that it will not be forgotten. I’ve worked retail at a Cal-mex restaurant in the heart of downtown Campbell, CA with similar food and we got VERY busy. I get it, but we rarely let calls go for more than a minute.
I hope y’all work on it. Hoping for a confirmation from a manager that it’s being addressed, and I will change my review because I do like you...

Read moreEveryone had told me how great this place was. I was eating with 4 other family members, (3 locals and another out of towner who swore by it. We ordered the family taco fish kit with two extra tacos and extra sauces. Picked it up and it looked like everything was there. Some fish was in an extra container so all looked good with out opening all containers. Get back to house and extra tacos and sauce were not there. Called and they apologized and said they forgot to give us the extra bag sitting in to go area as she had found it. They compensated for their mistake and all was fine with ordering part. Now for the fish supplied to make your own taco. It was a good looking piece until you bit into it. Heavily breaded and had less fish than a fish stick. There was no fish flavor at all and 90% breading. Beans, rice and guacamole was good so they moved from 1 star to 2. Probably...
