Capparelli's — Restaurant in La Vernia

Regarding food quality only...I've always been a big fan of Capparelli's...on Southcross. Sadly, the LV store still struggles to live up to the good standards and reputation the stores in SA have earned for decades. Many dishes are comparable and good; others are not. Most recently I bought a simple 12" sausage pizza. Good ingredients. Poorly prepared. The crust was cooked...but just barely. Doughy. Not good. The toppings, quality cheese and sausage, were floating in a pool of orange grease. Very ugly. Any 1st year prep cook knows to cook and drain sausage thoroughly prior to it becoming a pizza topping. I've bought this item before in LV and it was the same. So this isn't a case of a Cap's having a "bad day". This is how they make a pizza pie. Keep trying Capparelli...get it right! Good ingredients; terribly cooked. Train your kitchen people!... If you can. Your namesakes would be disgusted by the grease-bomb pies you're currently serving. UPDATE: The quality of the pizza I just got was excellent! The service at the drive up window was lacking but I don't really care about that. The pie is great. New cheese maybe...not greasy at all! Day trip to area, found this on Goggle & seemed to have good reviews & family owned, which are what we usually look for. Clean dining area, restroom clean, but needed some maintenance. Only customers there, but a Sunday afternoon, so figured in between busy hours. Sadly, pretty much blah on scale. 2nd order of bread burnt...didn't need explanation why, just needed new bread, which we got eventually. Homemade Italian dressing on salad pretty bland just didn't taste right. The veggie entree I ordered used it too, as it's sauce, was pretty tasteless & way to much oil, veggies were swimming! After the bread incident, figured better to take home & fix up than send it back. Husband had lasagna, but said was just normal, sauce was pretty salty & he's a salty guy. Price at level of Olive Garden, but not the quality. Waitress recommended pizza...should have gone with that, seemed to be the item we saw others picking up. We might have faired better. Took mine home, drained it & added some Italian spices so didn't waste my veggies! Think we'll pass on this...

Over the last 10 years this place has gone down the toilet! This used to be an OK place to eat and now it is NOT OK at all. The nice bread they used to serve is now hotdog buns, I think, with some kind of cheap butter on them. Instead of giving you some nice olive oil to dunk your bread and they give you vinegar with some herbs in it. It is absolutely scary how shocking and bad it tastes! The pizza has some kind weird fake looking/tasting cheese all over it. The crust is thick and gooey, and not even quite cooked all the way. All in all, it is a shame to go somewhere you used to enjoy and find it to be so pitiful. The inside is the same inside as 10 years ago only tired, dirty and drab. The waitress did a nice job, I cannot blame her or make her responsible for any of this, but this place has gone so far downhill I don’t even recognize it. The plates, the utensils, the glasses are all worn out and nasty. It’s a shame but I’m done and will never return. Run...
