Lobster In The Rough on Weirs Beach — Restaurant in Laconia

We visited this place a little while ago and it was a pretty solid seafood restaurant! I can imagine this would be the perfect spot to head to lunch when you’re out boating on the lake in summer and want to take a quick break. It’s located right in the downtown area of Weirs Beach - look for the big “Weathervane” sign, you can’t miss it! We came as a big group and still got seated quickly, serviced well, and our food came out in a very reasonable amount of time. Sometimes places take forever with big groups - not this one, so it seems they definitely are prepared for it!

We got a variety of different things from the menu (I don’t have pictures of everything) including the fried whole clams, Caesar salad with grilled shrimp, clam chowder, fried fish tacos, chicken tenders, fried haddock sandwich, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, and a bacon cheeseburger! as expected, the seafood was the best part, though no one was disappointed with what they got. The general consensus for us was: the Caesar salad with grilled shrimp was excellent (shrimp were fresh and had great flavor), all the friend seafood dishes were good (not the best we’ve ever had but still quite solid), chicken tenders were pretty average, mozzarella sticks were great, clam chowder was excellent, burger was pretty average as well, and onion rings were great. I don’t think you’re going to be “wowed” by anything at this restaurant, but I don’t think you’ll be disappointed by anything either - unless, perhaps, you get one of the most expensive items and expect more than what you get.

I do recommend this place though! Check it out, get some fried stuff, and indulge at a classic seafood outpost that defines this...

We were cheerfully seated and given menus. However, no waitstaff came to our table for 10-15 min. even though several walked by or were sitting at the end of the bar looking at their phone. We felt invisible! My husband finally went up to the bar and asked if we could be helped. The waiter then came over right away and took our drink order. He apologized to us and later told us our server had been in the bathroom! Not something we needed to hear about! The lobster roll was made from very small pieces of dry lobster meat on a hot dog roll and was disappointing. The fries were plentiful but undercooked and limp. But, we really enjoyed the cole slaw! We wanted iced tea but were told they didn’t have any so we ordered the “light” lemonade which was indeed light…not much flavor at all. My husband said his steamers were okay, but we did notice some of the clams hadn’t ever opened during steaming. This restaurant was supposed to be amazing. We chose to go here because it seemed like a better choice than greasy fried food. We got there and instantly sat down. The waitress took our drink orders and appetizers. After that we order or food and never saw the waitress again for over 45 minutes. We had to flag down another person to get more drinks and watched as people who came in 10 plus minutes after us got their food AND paid their bill before us. Our waitress only frequented our table when the food arrived and wanted us to pay the bill.

The food was so so. You can only get fried shrimp in the tacos and not grilled which doesn't make any sense. They apparently only have American cheese for burgers but nothing else. The fries were plain and boring.

I was thinking of leave 3 stars but after writing this out I think I'll leave 1.
