*Edit. Owner doesn’t like detailed reviews. Here’s a concise summary.
Food sucks. Service is awful. Go elsewhere. *
I’ve been by a million times and always curious, so stopped in this afternoon, around 1:30.
There were a handful of people around, which was encouraging. I walked up to the counter and stood there for probably 5 minutes.
There is a sign that more or less says “we’re understaffed and busy. Be patient”. Ok. Fine, I get it.
Eventually, the guy behind the counter, presumably one of the owners, gave me a gesture suggesting someone might eventually help me. Thanks. Unfortunately that was not the case.
The whole time I’m standing there, the other owner was having a very lovely conversation with some folks on their way out. Cool, I’m glad you like other people from Chicago. I’m also from the area, but you’ve been giving me the evil eye from the second I walked in. Maybe they could sense the Wisconsin.
I stood there for 10-15 minutes, just waiting to order. There was no line and nobody waiting for food. A table of 3 eating. Just a very slow moving man behind the counter and a business partner who clearly did not care. I listened to their lovely conversation with the Chicago family.
I almost left a few times before ordering, but the “please be patient” sign got the best of me. I’m a sucker and should have left. I’d have been better off with a flippin’ roller dog at 7-11.
20 minutes later, a hot dog and a coke were ready. Coca Cola is always good out of a fountain machine. One would think a hot dog would be similarly easy to master. Well, they did screw it up. $16 in (plus tip that wasn’t deserved). Dried out crumbly roll and a burned hot dog. Peppers looked suspect and one appeared to be moldy.
I would have complained, but one of the owners left to head to the grocery store and the man behind the counter ignored me. Another guy came in for a hot dog and apparently that was all consuming. I threw out half my lunch and left.
I witnessed two other people stop in, wait at the counter for a few minutes, then leave after being ignored.
Disappointing. Don’t waste your time. Rude people and poor...
Read more!!!!!!!! I PREFER THEIR BEEF OVER THE BEEF BACK HOME IN CHICAGO!!!!! Being from the South Side of chicago (GO SOX!) and having a lot of hot dog joints around in Chicago this place hits the closest to home in Colorado. As for the few bad reviews on here I can truly tell you for the dozens and dozens of times my family has eaten here none of us had any of those experiences. Ever. And truly any complaints about the staff I just can't believe it because we're always treated like family here. They're all good people. And lastly any complaints about the prices all I can say is you get what you pay for: Quality. Authenticity. Delicious nostalgic flavors that make you feel you're back in the city. Did I mention it's got a ton of stuff to look at too?! Like a mini Chicago museum. If you're expecting Portillos well then go on Portillos and on their website you can order there to ship to you. But if you're expecting true Chicago fast food from those beef and hot dog places you find tucked in the neighborhoods go HERE. Pizza puffs just like back home. And they make some of the best Italian beefs here on TURANO bread. The hotdogs are just like Chicago and on that poppy seed bun. You can find a lot of brands sold in Chicago you can't find here. Love being able to get Green River again. My family is so happy this restaurant exists and will be forever customers. And we love talking to the folks that work there and run it. Seriously people, to say I prefer this beef over the famous beef joints in the heart of Chicago where I grew up is a huge compliment. It's truly perfect and worth every penny they charge for it, which is super reasonable considering all the meat you get. Also, get a candy on the way out or a bag of Matt's cookies for dessert. You'll be so happy you did. I grew up on Matt's and we would put a few on a plate and heat In micro for 7 second or in toaster oven a minute. Makes an already delicious cookie even better. To close I'd like to say I was born and raised in the Bridgeport neighborhood up until we moved to Colorado when I was 31 and I ALWAYS eat ketchup on my Chicago...
Read moreVery dissatisfied with the quality and customer service I received tonight. Me and my boyfriend went in around 6:15 we ordered a polish sausage, a chili dog, and a Chicago dog altogether $20.00. We get our food to go, after we get it we proceed to drive home to Arvada. After getting home my boyfriend ate the polish sausage and it was fine. Right after we opened the two hot dogs we both took our first bites and knew it was not right because there was a loud pop noise when we bit in to them. After trying to finish the bite we couldn't as the "all natural" coating that's on the hot dogs, was still attached to the hot dogs completely. We both questioned the taste/feeling of the coating and agreed that it was not edible. We have been here before and ordered the same exact thing and it did not come out with a coating so heavy you couldn't enjoy it. So after the first bite and realizing we couldn't even eat the hot dogs I called down to the store. I spoke to the woman on duty and she seemed confused on my concern stating that all their hot dogs come like that and that it is suppose to "pop" when you bite it, so she didn't know how to help me. I asserted to her the food was in edible and she offered $10.00 of the $20.00 back. I told her I would prefer a bit more or the full amount because we came from Arvada to get food that we could not even eat. She then questioned me on what took so long to call and then offered me only $7.00 if I went down there to get it. She has yet to provide a real solution so I will be in tomorrow with the coating of the hot dog because that is...
