A Long-Overdue Love Letter to C’est La Vie
It’s not often you come across a restaurant that gets everything right, consistently — but C’est La Vie in downtown Lancaster has quietly, confidently been doing just that for years. And frankly, this glowing review is long overdue.
From the moment you step through the door, it’s clear that every detail of the space has been curated with intention. The ambiance is effortlessly chic — a blend of trendy comfort and belle époque elegance that transports you. The warm lighting, rich textures, and thoughtful spatial design all work in harmony to create an atmosphere that feels both vibrant and intimate. It’s the kind of place where you can settle in for hours, lost in great conversation, without ever needing to raise your voice. The acoustics are a minor miracle in themselves.
But let’s talk about the food — mon dieu, the food. The French-inspired cuisine never ceases to amaze. Every dish is a marriage of high-quality ingredients and meticulous presentation. Whether it's traditional mussels beurre monte, a perfectly seared duck breast, or a decadent crème brûlée, there’s a certain je ne sais quoi to every plate that leaves you both satisfied and eagerly anticipating your next visit. The menu strikes a beautiful balance between innovation and tradition — French classics elevated with subtle, modern twists that surprise and delight.
The cocktails are no less impressive. Creative, balanced, and beautifully presented, each drink is a testament to the skill and imagination behind the bar. Whether you're indulging in something floral and aromatic or bold and spirit-forward, there’s always something on the cocktail menu that feels just a little bit special — like it was made just for you.
As for the service: friendly, professional, and perfectly timed. The staff at C’est La Vie have mastered the art of being present without ever hovering. They seem to have an innate sense of when to appear — whether it’s for a water refill, a wine recommendation, or simply to check in. It’s a level of attentiveness that feels rare these days and only adds to the overall sense that you are being taken care of.
What makes C’est La Vie so special, though, is the consistency. This isn’t a place that rests on its reputation. Every visit, whether a spontaneous weeknight dinner, a business lunch or a celebratory evening out, meets — and often exceeds — expectations. There’s clearly a deep level of thought and pride that goes into every element of the dining experience, and it shows.
As a lifelong Francophile, C’est La Vie feels like home away from my happy place. It captures the spirit of France — not just in the food or decor, but in the experience: the joy of sharing a beautiful meal, of savoring the moment, of feeling like time has slowed just enough to let you live a little more fully.
C’est La Vie isn’t just one of the best restaurants in Lancaster — it’s one of my favorites. Mes remerciements à...

Restaurant is conveniently located in a corner spot right next to the Central Market. It is easily identifiable by a sign. It is also directly next to parking lot (paid - $4/hour). Big windows and upon entry instantly greeted by staff to take us to our table. We went on a Saturday in January at 1230 and it was not too busy. Seated at a 4 top which had large ceiling high windows to see the comings and going’s on the square. We were promptly seen by our server who filled our water glasses immediately and left a carafe.
Service: A Timely and succinct. Able to provide suggestions on favorites as well as promote specials with the ability to answer follow up questions. Friendly and helpful overall.
Cocktails: A+ Queen Street was well balanced and allowed for a slight sweet taste without a heavy booziness of the gin. Colorful, straightforward and tasty. Many can be consumed.
Bulleit Manhattan (not special cocktail) Full pour to top, rye and vermouth balanced. Luxardo cherry to finish. Nice warmth on a winter Saturday.
Food: A+ Sweet corn bechamel pizza was delicious. Great appetizer that had a nice amount of cheese with a kick from the pesto. Surprisingly light that did not give you that bloat feeling before your meal.
Crab cake sandwich (special) with tots was heavy on the back fin crab meat. Very low amount of filler. Cooked well with a nice char to crunch. Brioche roll fresh. Tots lightly seasoned with sea salt. Fried for nice solid shell with soft potato inside.
Spinach salad with Tuna was a large portion with nice cuts of sushi grade fish. Edamame nice touch with hard boiled egg. More filling than we thought.
Seasonal cheese cake was a lemon meringue with cranberry purée. Light and airy. Great palate cleanser.
Price: A- A little on the pricier side for lunch but that was because we went heavier on the drinks and had more seafood dishes.
We thorough enjoyed our time here and will be back. It’s nice to see an establishment have a full menu for lunchtime as we tend to eat on the...
Read moreIf I could give this place more than 5 stars, I would. We go out to eat with another couple every 3-4 months and always try to make it a point to go to a different place in or around Lancaster. This was our first time visiting C'est La Vie and I can honestly say this was easily one of our best experiences dining out in Lancaster in the past 3-4 years. The service was excellent (shout out to Brett!) and the food was equally spectacular. We started off with the chicken lollipops for an appetizer and these were amazing. I'm not sure quite how they managed to do it, but the chicken was fall-off-the bone tender and the fried coating was light, crispy, and flakey. I was impressed with the large selection of unique and seasonal cocktails. I had the Smoky Solstice and my wife chose the C’est La Vie, both of which were very excellent. I chose to add the C'est La Vie House Salad (half size) and this was very good as well. Any salad that includes cheese and pepperoni gets an automatic pass, but all the ingredients were fresh and this was a well-executed salad. I'm a sucker for a great brick oven pizza, especially one with pepperoni and hot honey. The Soppresetta Pizza entree didn't disappoint, as it had a beautiful crust that was both crusty and chewy. The sauce and toppings were well-portioned and the pizza was cooked to absolute perfection. My wife had the Boeuf Bourguignon and was very impressed. The beef was extremely tender and flavorful and the dish was well executed. For dessert, my wife had the evening special, which was a type of light peppermint gelato-like dessert (can't remember the name). I chose the Crème Brulé, which was easily the best I've had in years. We typically don't return to places often, since there are so many great restaurants in and around Lancaster to choose from, but we're going to make an exception for this place. We're looking forward to going back. If you haven't tried C'est La Vie, definitely check it out. I highly...
