At first it might seem a little sketch, that there is a Korean BBQ joint in Lavonia, and in the old Shoney's on top of that. However once you commit and walk through the front doors you forget all about any of that. The restaurant is very clean and has the shiniest floor I have ever seen. We were greeted upon arrival and shown to a table, we had 8 in our party so we got two tables in the back. The staff was friendly and they got our order correct. The drinks arrived quickly and the food started showing up. The younger kids in our group ordered from the kids menu and they seemed to enjoy it as there wasn't much to bring home. The older kids and kids at heart had the BBQ mix. This was pretty cool as they will cook the food right at the table if you want. Not knowing what was what we had our food cooked. It is a lot of food. We started with brisket and the meat just kept coming. They bring a lot of sides out too and will refill them as much as you request. They have this corn dish with cheese on top that really resonated with my southern heart. Kimchi, pickled radish, bean sprouts, and fish cake just to name a few of the sides. The server was awesome and she just kept cooking and smiling the entire time. She overheard that we were celebrating a birthday and she gave us all melon popsicles which were awesome. With our bellies full of meaty treats we packed up the leftovers (enough for dinner tomorrow) and made our way out the door. All in all this place is really out of place but once you give it a shot and open the doors you won't be disappointed. The food was top notch, the service was excellent, and the restaurant was super clean! What more could you ask for?! I highly recommend eating here and urge you to try it if you haven't already. We will...
Read moreFirst of all they were playing loud American rap music with N words, and F words! what the heck??? is this not a family friendly restaurant??? was very offended,we asked to lower the volume of music and they did, which was appreciated, our server seemed to be new because she had to go back and forth several times to ask someone for answers to our questions which we didn't mind but she was clueless on many dishes,I am an Korean American and was raised in Korea, and i was really looking forward to my traditional food which i was craving but sadly was really disappointed with the seasonings and flavors, food was really watered down and bland. I also asked about the portion sizes on the BBQ meats and when she explained how many pieces of LA ribs for $85-$135 dollars we were shocked and decided on less priced items, this was my second visit hoping that our second time trying other menu items would be better but to my dismay it was note would really like to tell the owners that playing loud rap music with offensive words should be something they should really reconsider! if they really want to play rap music, they might want to consider playing Korean K-pop rap? at least the words would not be offensive!!! the their side dishes were actually pretty good, but even their rice was not authentic, it did not have the texture of the short grain rice, it was flaky like the long grain. My husband and I would love to see this restaurant make some changes and do well, I hope this new owner takes time to read some reviews and take to heart what some of his customers are pointing...
Read moreThis is my second time eating korean food and it was absolutely delicious! I had the kimchi fried rice and it came out within 10 minutes, steaming hot and in a huge serving. The spice does build with each bite so unless you have a high spice tolerance, I would recommend ordering one of the milk teas to go along with it. I had the matcha milk tea and it was absolutely delicious. I tasted the peach tea and it wasn't my favorite (it tastes like those peach fruit cups with a bitter aftertaste imo)
My family got the beef Bulgogi dupbap, soy garlic fried chicken wings, pork fried rice and shrimp fried rice and they were all really tasty, with generous serving sizes. All the meals come with udon soup, which is a light broth. In my opinion the udon soup could have been hotter. They also serve pickled radish, pickled cucumber, fish sticks, and kimchi to the table. All the side dishes were really delicious, especially the cucumber.
The atmosphere is very calm and relaxing with traditional style korean songs playing in the background. The bathrooms are extremely clean as well.
This might just be a result of the warm weather but there were a few flies around the restaurant so just make sure not to leave your food unattended.
All in all, this was an amazing dining experince. I'll definitely be back to...
