I went to Sullivan's last night to celebrate my brother's birthday. It was absolutely terrible. The service was awful and slow, the food mediocre at best for the prices, and the management bordering useless. My brother and I arrived first at 6:30 and were sat and then quickly greeted by John, a new server just starting on his first day, and being shadowed by Spencer, a supposedly experienced server, but not at all from what we experienced. Soon, the rest of our party arrived as we were a party of 6 total. John and Spencer never came back to check on us once our table was fully sat, while we saw several tables right next to us getting all of their attention. At 7:30, they STILL hadn't come back to our table to finish filling waters and take our drink order. I, in fact, had to get Spencer's attention to have them finally come finish preparing our table and take our drink and appetizer order. We honestly should have just walked out right then. Our appetizer arrived timely but our drinks took an absurdly long time to come. We also never received bread for the table. After we had finished our appetizer, I had to kindly ask a food runner/busser to grab bread for our table. She was wonderful and brought us some immediately. We were then ignored AGAIN completely by John and Spencer for well over 30 minutes. I had to grab a separate server from a neighboring table to bring us the Prix Fixe menu as we had never been brought any. Any time my table need a drink refill or anything at all, I had to go out of my way to flag the two of them down to get any attention at all. They never stopped by our table on their own I had to ask for them every. single. time. Absolutely ridiculous!! After finally placing our full orders and receiving our bisque and salad starters, I got up to speak to the manager. After speaking to her and explaining the events of the evening, she seemed to take them seriously. She rushed off and I went back to join my table. Shortly after, Spencer did come back to finally give us some attention and refill waters and pre-buss some of our plates, but that was short lived as I still had to flag him down for things later in the evening such as getting a new Shirley temple for my youngest brother. While dropping off the entrees for the table the manager told me she had comped the first round of drinks for the table which ended up being just 1 domestic beer, 1 French 75, and 1 mezcal mule, I believe. While a nice gesture, not at all enough to compensate for the horrendous service we received all evening, especially when we're spending the kind of money we were spending. Our desserts took an insanely long time as well. The NY cheesecake comes with strawberry compote on top, but that isn't listed anywhere on the menu. One person at my table is allergic to strawberries and couldn't enjoy any of their cheesecake at all and gave it to another at the table. Truly irresponsible and dangerous of the restaurant. My table NEVER got a formal apology from the manager or Spencer or John for the unacceptable service. Nor did my brother, whose 23rd birthday had been ruined by their complete indifference to providing decent service. My brother was also told at the beginning of the night that he would get a free dessert for his birthday, but as he got the prix fixe menu that comes with a dessert already, we expected to be offered another small favor to celebrate, especially after the experience we had had already. Nope. Nothing. Absolutely terrible. Service was so slow throughout the night, we didn't leave until after 9:15pm, when we had arrived originally at 6:30. Purely because of the snail paced service. Everything about Sullivan's Steakhouse was complete trash. I sincerely recommend no one waste their hard...
Read morePros: Crab cake delicious Crème Brûlée and Banana Fosters delicious Market price king crab leg delicious (but $50 per crab leg seemed a bit much) Our waiter James D was phenomenal. Our drinks were never empty. Our plates were promptly taken away.
Cons: Aged tomahawk steak was so underwhelming that my husband said he’d take it home to try to recook it. I told him that’s ridiculous because if this professional steak restaurant didn’t cook the steak well enough to eat he needs to send it back. He sent it back to be cooked medium rare, not rare like it came out. When it came back out it was still rare. He didn’t want to resend it again. Not only was it not cooked the way we asked, the seasoning was just ok. We’ve made better steaks on the grill at home.
The porterhouse steak although was better than the tomahawk, it still wasn’t cooked medium rare. It came out rare. It was a little better seasoned but we had better steaks on the grill at home.
When we told our waiter, James D, he saw that my husband had only taken one bite, apologized and let his manager know. The manager came to our table and offered, “ a little bit of a discount.” You’re telling me I ordered a $100 steak at a restaurant that specializes in steak that didn’t know how to properly season or cook a steak and you’re giving us a “little bit of a discount?” I guess I should’ve trusted the reviews on Yelp but I wanted to see for myself and I know I’ll never go back to this place with that type of service.
After we told our waiter James D that we are never coming back because the service is horrible, he went and took the entire steak off the bill. He offered us two complimentary desserts in addition. We saw that we were charged for one of the complimentary desserts. We then saw that the two pieces of king crab legs were over $100. We never bothered to ask the cost of market price crab legs before we ordered because we don’t need to when we want something as long as it tastes good. And although our tomahawk steak was ultimately taken off our bill, I have a feeling they made up for it by increasing the price of the two king crab legs. But we still gave our waiter over 30% tip because we thought he was great. We just really didn’t like the manager or the steaks. So our search for our go to steakhouse continues.
They need to get a new restaurant manager. We would’ve been open to going back to trying some of the other items on the menu, like the seafood. But the manager’s attitude was horrible. A stuck up horrible attitude is never an excuse in food/service industry but if you do, at least cook your...
Read moreSo, we arrived and the only available seating was the bar or patio, which was fine because the patio was heated and enclosed. Our waitress Valerie arrived within a few minutes. Asked for our drink order. I specifically asked for sweet tea and my husband ice water. A few minutes later, I asked my husband how long it actually takes to pour sweet tea, finally our beverages arrived, the waitress paused and asked if I wanted sugar for my tea, imagine the puzzled look on my face, she never said that they didn't have already sweetened tea. So we were checking out the menu. Yes, menu, we had to share one. We LOVE charbroiled oysters so we ordered some. My husband asked if they come 6 or 12, waitress wasn't sure(??)so she took our order and then came back and said they come 4, yes, you read that right, FOUR. When they FINALLY arrived, they were the PUNIEST oysters we've EVER seen! The plate was screaming hot, the shells were screaming hot and the oysters were WARM! We both ordered steaks, me a rib eye and my husband a NY strip, BOTH medium rare. So, as we are sitting there having already eaten the baby oysters, the waitress brings out 2 large plates not saying a word. Off she goes, then 5-8 minutes later she brings out a steaming loaf of bread with poppyseed butter (?). I didn't eat any, wanted to save room for my steak if I ever got it. So my husband and I are sitting there, twiddling our thumbs waiting on our food. When the waitress comes back and asks if the bread was ok because we didn't each much, we say yes, then she disappears again. This time, we don't see her for at least 30 minutes. When our steaks FINALLY arrived, a man brought them out. Here's where the problem arises. We BOTH ordered them MEDIUM RARE, mine was just a little rarer than I wanted, but my husband's was OVERDONE. How the hell do you screw up like that??? So, i cut into mine and it wasn't too bad, my husband could barely cut into his. We had to call the waitress back, she was very apologetic and even had the manager visit us. She was extremely friendly and apologetic and comped his steak. Gave us her card for a free EGG ROLL when we come back, I almost laughed out loud. "Sorry we screwed up your steak, here are some free egg rolls" SERIOUSLY??? We ordered the white cheddar bacon au gratin potatoes, the dish was screaming hot, potatoes were not.
Will not be going back. Thanks for the memorable Valentine's day/husband's...
