I had lunch at Johanna’s Bakery and Restaurant recently because a friend discovered it was a place she could get the Salvadorean food that she loves.

I tried the plantains, the tamal, and a Pupusa Queso. Each item was cooked to perfection. The Plantains were crispy and deliciously flavorful on the inside. These were small and better than any I’ve had in other restaurants. The Tamal from El Salvador is a sweet not savory tamal with no filling. Tamal De Elote. It is served with Crema. These were fried for perfect crispness n the outside. They were moist but light. Pupusas are sort of corn cakes. They can be filled with various things but these were Papusa Queso. Just cheese. There was a bit of pickled salad and a sauce to top them with. Another light and perfectly cooked delight. This is a Bakery and Restaurant. Before we even explored the bakery we were offered a sample of Tres Leches cake. Johanna’s is a cool refreshing version with a bit of meringue that makes it special. And perhaps most amazing to us was that we discovered that at the time of our visit this light and joyful spot had been open only two weeks. It’s people are helpful and made us feel totally welcome. Oh my gosh, I’m so lucky to find a pupusa place nearby that took me back to Childhood when I first tried a pupusa. The food is made with love and care and the bake goods are so fresh and not too sweet. I wanna come here every day, the owners are great Kind and they cook the food with passion. I will be spreading the word as they open just about a month ago it’s very clean inside and they bake fresh breads. One of my friends suggested this newly opened place, and I’m so glad we went! Johanna’s Bakery & Restaurant is an absolute gem in Leesburg. We went for dinner and the food was freshly made, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. What makes this place even more special is the owners — a wonderful husband-and-wife team who are so kind and welcoming. You can feel the love and passion in every dish. Truly a must-visit spot for both sweet treats and hearty meals....
