We've been excited for the opening of the new Burg & Barrel Lenexa location at 87th and Bourgade and tonight was a perfect time as it was Allyson's birthday. Located just down the street from the elementary school we were at for the student Christmas concert, seemed opportune to stop in.
The new place was packed! The restaurant has been overhauled since Gambino's left and looked great.
Started out with fried mushrooms because you don't go to Burg and Barrel and NOT get fried mushrooms. Big huge portabellos with that delicious light tempura type batter with a hint of sage...mmm-mmm! Also got chips and queso as well as fried pickles.
Lynda had a mule cocktail while I got a really tasty stout, 10% or 20 proof stout!
Entrées were a chicken tender meal which they are actual fresh breaded tenders from the breast, so incredibly light and tasted totally like Sunday homemade fried chicken; BLT with avocado; grilled bbq chicken; Lynda had the grilled chicken caprese sandwich which was total off the hook delicious with the pesto, grilled chicken, tomato and balsamic reduction...total 11/10 of a sandwich and I had the Upstream BLT which is the grilled salmon with bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado and honey balsamic.
In the past I always get a Big Pig tenderloin as imo, it is one of the best pork tenderloins in KC...but this Upstream BLT with the fresh salmon, omg was so good đ.
For Al's birthday, she had the Sunday Funday. It was one of those lick the plate clean desserts. The pretzel bites were soft and airy and the cinnamon/sugar mixed with the ice cream and chocolate sauce was like a pretzel and churro collaboration of yum.
Great start for Burg & Barrel in the neighborhood. We got to meet one of the owners and the staff was just on top of everything. Great supper and thanks Burg & Barrel for a...

This is our 4th time, food and service went down hill. Servers get smarter though.
Asked one of the young ladies how to sign up the loyalty program, she said she doesnât know but would ask her manager, then asked if I have talked to my server, she said talk to her first if she couldnât help, sheâll find a manager for me !! Really??? To sign up a loyalty program?? You have to climb all the mountains first?? (well it worked out OK, will never go back so have no use of the loyalty program)
This is a place that is so stingy on fries!! Iâve counted , 18 pieces in a burger meal . I guess potatoes is very expensive nowadays I had comments with the manager before, his comments? Oh yeah, pile of fries is very important!! What a smart axxx.and it totally reflects on the people work under him!
The burger!!! Grease is dripping profusely!! The bottom of the bun is soaked with grease and become a piece of soggy dough! Talked to the server, she said yeah.. thatâs how people like it, so the burger wonât dry out!đ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł ?? Really ?? Look at the picture and see the grease pool on the plate!! I mean come on, all you can do is a little attention to details, let the freshly cooked burger drips a little bit first before assembling onto the bun! And believe me, this is not the first time we eat burger, I am pretty sure no one like greasy soggy bun and pool of grease when they have their burger.
So this is a place will not take any constructive criticism but just being smart mouth with you.. so see you, will...
Read moreFood dripping in oil, ugh! Their beer batter is like a sponge for oil!. Plus, used same oil to fry pork tenderloin as the fish. All I could taste was fishy flavor. Wife tasted and said if did not know better would have thought it was a fish sandwich and even oilier than Long John Silvers. The rings look great, but saturated in oil. Ironically the fries came out best. The hamburger itself had no flavor, no salt even and had to spit out several grisel pieces and soon gave up on it even after salt and pepper added. Maybe why they all have so many toppings to hide the bland burger. Even their bun was oily. Look at others pics with shiny buns! As others mentioned, way too loud and nobody even at the bar. Mostly older people there sunday night. Too many tvs and tables crammed into small space with concrete floor? Salad prices ridiculous these days! It is mostly a bowl of romaine lettuce people! I get a fresh big restaurant sized bag at City Market each week for 1.00! Quit gouging people who have or want to eat healthier than fried foods! Shameful. Most expensive food on menu because has some meat and cheese on top of .30 cents of lettuce!? Wanted to love those thick real beef burgers and a good salad but not worth it here. 40.00 for 2 sandwiches and 7.00 add ons..partly over fried, and water? Service was good. We still tipped well..remember not the servers fault!...
