This place is Lincoln City history and nostalgia at its finest. The family that owns it are fantastic and would love nothing more than to tell you about it. In fact, when you walk in the door, they'll greet you and ask you if you've been there before. If you haven't, they'll give you a quick run down of their history and what they're known for. They've been running this little charming place going on 50 years!
What about their food? The must haves are the fries and special sauce. Their burgers are pretty decent too. But most people come for the ice cream! However, I discovered something even better than ice cream upon my most recent visit. I tried one of their homemade crumbles ala mode: caramel apple walnut with vanilla ice cream. It. Was. AMAZING! For $6.75, it was worth every darn penny and tasted homemade. I was halfway through stuffing my face before I realized I'd better take a photo of it! GREAT. Now my mouth is watering just THINKING about it. They also had a Marionberry crumble which I'm definitely going to try next time.
In addition to the dessert and ice cream, there's a small gift shop area and for the kids a mini-arcade. I'd recommend checking out the crane game 😉
Finally, little places like this have their quirks and Eleanors is that they only accept cash and check (with proper ID). They're also only open until 5 PM.
So make sure hit the ATM beforehand and ABSOLUTELY make sure you order the crumble when you visit Eleanors. It's a long lasting little secret nestled in the south side of...
Read moreMy husband, along with another couple we went to the Coast with, were looking forward to experiencing Eleanor's and see if it lived up to the reviews we had read about. We showed up at 11:55am on a Wednesday afternoon, and Eleanor's was posted to open at 12:00pm. Our friend with us at the time was 7 months pregnant, and therefore obviously showing. The door was locked, and a waitress (or possibly Eleanor herself) came to the door, looked at us through the glass and mouthed the words: "5-10 minutes." We assumed she might open the door a couple of minutes later to let our expecting friend have a seat, but we were denied and therefore had to go back to our care until 5-10 minutes were up. 20 minutes later, Eleanor's was still not open. We walked to the door several times, seeing the same waitress standing behind the counter and ignoring our expectant looks. We left Eleanor's, very disappointed by the costumer service and the ignoring attitude of their posted hours. We came back a couple of days later, on a Saturday night around 7pm to get some ice cream. Surprisingly, Eleanor's was closed on one of the busiest times of the week. We called their phone number to find our what their hours were, to find that they do not even have a business-based answering machine message; just a standard robotic message stating the number was not available. We were thoroughly disappointed by the lack of professionalism at this restaurant, and by their obvious disregard for their costumers and their desire to...
Read moreI stopped in for an ice cream treat, never saw a sign in the door or counter saying cash only, ordered a single dip cone and the lady told me they did not take cards. I was like oh, well I cannot pay then and she got mad and gave me a dirty look, then exhaustively told me there was an atm i could get cash for it. I asked if there was a charge and she did not seem to like that either. It was 1.75 charge for the use there, plus it would have been another $3 from my bank and the cost of the cone to add up to like $7 for 1 scoop of ice cream! NOOOOOO WAY! I could by 2 pints for that! She was mad when I told her I did not want to pay so much for ice cream. ONLY GO WITH CASH AND BE PREPARED TO DEAL WITH SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T WANT...
