This may be long....but worth the read. I have been going to the White Owl for over half my life. You would really call me a "regular ". I am from the area, and I live in the area. Today I came in, and sat at a table on the main floor. A waitress "Paula " came to our table and asked what we wanted to drink. My boyfriend asked for a "bd" Miller. I asked for a Pacifico ( which is a beer they serve). The waitress said sure for $5. I responded "it will be more than $5 because I want a "bd". At this point our waitress Paula said "oh, to clarify it will be the price of the beer, the tip, and an additional $5 to have that beer because it is upstairs ". In all honesty I thought she was kidding, but she was not. At this point I walked up the 12 stairs and ordered my beer. I game my money to the bartender along with a $3 tip. I went back downstairs and ordered my food ( for the recored my sandwich was amazing). After we ate, Paula gave us a total without a recipt. The amout she gave us did not match with simple math. I asked for a paper bill/recipt. The amount was extremely different. We paid what the paper bill said!!! After eating I went back to the deck and gave the bartender, Jennifer, the extra $5. Jennifer is the one that took the time to acknowledge me, and give me the drink I wanted. I asked if the extra charge was normal, and I was told NO! This kind of practice seems a bit misleading to me. I think a common practice is a good idea for good customer service in these situations. I do not think I will be back after years and years of...
Read moreI've been a patron of the owl for almost 30 years. We loved the place and went there on a weekly basis. We always bought food, never started problems and always tipped very well, to the point the waitresses knew what we drank and just brought us a beer. As we were having dinner one night on the deck recently, the local drunk at the bar walks passed, starts making DEATH threats to my wife and myself and I was kicked out. We returned a couple weeks later with friends. We were finishing up dinner as the local drunk walks by again and made more death threats to myself and my wife. The manager, door guy, drunks best friend, came up and accused me of making threats to him and banned me forever. Pretty sad a place would cater to the town alcoholic, not a 30 year patron that spends money in their establishment, and always brings people with. Word of mouth advertising is a killer!! Spend your hard earned money elsewhere, the place is going...
Read moreSome colleagues from work decided to go there for dinner. Upon entering the establishment we asked for menus which were given to us. It took 15 minutes to get a beer there were maybe a total of 12 people in there, at least five people on staff two in the kitchen three in the bar. Then after dropping off our first beer our waitress disappeared came back to let us know that the kitchen had just closed and if we would like to order any food.( A few finger foods after 9:00) When I explain the conundrum of what she was attempting to tell me and how it was that there are menus on the table. We asked for them from her when we sat down it should have been implied we were planning on eating.when we voice our displeasure with her attentiveness to her job and us as her tipping paying customers we were directed to a go behind the building to the dumpster and leave our...
