Lola's Mexican Cuisine-Bixby Knolls — Restaurant in Long Beach

Food is solidly decent tho a bit on the pricey side and not worth the premium compared to other Southern Mexican restaurants I’ve experienced. But the convenience of it being local and saving me a drive makes me patronize this establishment often.

Cocktails are good and better priced

Service is underwhelming, and if you have children with you it’s horrendous.

My two kids are thankfully generally well behaved in public but I still felt the waitresses were short with us and weren’t on top of their jobs like you’d expect for the plate prices

Tried my best to ignore it and even thought it was just me reading into things but then two more young families came (not connected to our table) and the female servers animosity became obvious.

So much so that one of the moms called out a waitress over it which quickly escalated when the waitress gets rude and outright nasty in response.

They were literally about to fight but thankfully the male bartender and her husband held them back from each other

The other mom was being excessively kind prior to the outburst. Honestly a pushover. I could tell she felt bad, like her children were doing something bad for merely existing. They were not! They were good little boys playing calmly with each other.

Needless to say I left a tiny tip.

This all happened as we were walking out. I noticed the offended families decided to cancel their order and take their money elsewhere. The waitresses tried to get the two families to pay for their half drunk drinks but luckily the male bartender was wise and told them not to worry about the bill.

Honestly this is text book Family Status Discrimination and the restaurant can and should be sued for this. Many don’t know Family Status is a Federally Protected class like race, religion, gender etc

Great food, a really nice place with friendly staff. One thing I dont like is that it is really hard to receive another beer or cocktail in a normal amount of time no matter how busy they are. The happy hour would be great if the staff didn't make you feel like they are limiting your drinks during the happy hour. The wait staff take your oreder, send the orders through the computer to the bar and kitchen. You can actually see the bar ticket print out, at the bar, 10 or 15 feet from where they just placed your order on a touchscreen. The bartender makes a drink order and then places it for pick up. Again, you watch the bartender make another drink order and place it out for pick up, wait around for the wait staff to pick up the drink, you don't receive said drink for-ev-er. Back and forth they walk past drinks. Seriously though I'd rather just walk over and pick it up myself or why not just have the bartender drop it off? The place is not that big. It would take the bartender 30 seconds, tops, to drop off drinks. Its annoying to witness actually. I'm not one of those douche bags that give a place one star because the parking is terrible. I love Lolas, its a great place. Please though, Lola's, don't let me watch my drink being made, finished up and placed out for pick up, and then watch it not move at all when I'm so thirsty for that frosty beer. Not even worth a negative star. Just want you to know it happens often enough I'd rather go somewhere else next door when I wanna have a few drinks...

My daughter husband and I where expecting a nice time out we drive from Laguna hills just to check this place out server was great she was kind looked like she was good at her job she took our order didn’t write it down so my husband gets his order 20 min pass by.no food so we tell the server she tells her manager it’s really cold night so I ask if they can at least comp me a drink since my foods super late and my family’s done eating no comp just 10$ off a cold plate of carnitas that the manager said was already 86 to his buddies because this whole time manger has his buddies coming in getting exceptional service exceptionally a women that was super intoxicated and my food is apparently already 86 but he says my plate is fresh it tasted stale and bad and especially when I hear the manager say carnitas are 86 I’m think there serving me really old food it tasted old it was old he said it was86 so it was old he just lied to me and said it was fresh!
