Our experience tonight was 100% unacceptable. We decided to try Aura Thai because we love Thai food. Our first impression was ok even though the server was not very friendly from the get go.
We ordered a few appetizers, chicken pad Thai, beef pad thai and noodles for our son. The appetizers we're good, and the noodles my son seemed to enjoy very much. However, our pad thai dishes did not taste right. My boyfriend managed to eat his plate even though he didn't care much for it, I took one bite and was done. It was entirely too sweet, chicken was chewey did not have enough flavor just a sweetness I could not get over. I asked for some salt and the server told me to just try putting chili oil on it. She refused to get me salt at all. I told the server I did not like my dish and I was going to send it back. This woman didnt apologize, recommend a different dish or even allow me to order something else. She was very rude and argued with me that there was nothing wrong with the food and that she didn't understand why my bf ate his beef dish but my chicken dish was not good. I told the server to please take away the plate to which she replied: what do you want me to do with it? I'm not gonna eat it! As if we ever would suggest she eat our leftovers, confusing and frustrating
She walked away and I assume mentioned to the rest of the crew my issue with the food. Nobody bothered to offer an apology or tried to make the situation better. They kept glancing at us and just spoke to each other in their mother tongue with us just sitting feet from them.
After awkwardly arguing with us for almost 20 minutes about paying for the dish I didn't eat (took one bite) and how she pretty much refused to acknowledge my food was terrible she returned to the table. She said this one time I will take it off, as if she was doing us a favor!!! I replied it will be a one time because we will never eat here again.
I have worked in food service and can tell you that I would NEVER start an argument with a table if their experience was bad. I would simply apologize, make a recommendation and make sure the manager took it off the bill. Absolute rudeness,...
Read moreFantastic: I've been to a lot of Thai places, and this place definitely competes. We had the drunken noodles (excellent, though I thought the calamari was a bit bland; I'd probably go for chicken and beef instead of chicken and calamari next time - it was particularly basily, though, for pad kee mao, which I quite liked), the fried rice (decent, made excellent when we asked for a bit of lemon to add to it; they should probably do that themselves...), and a sausage appetizer (crazy good; so good my girlfriend said "I need to try making this"). Also tried an interesting take on thai tea that used lemon juice instead of cream, which was also extremely good. Service was excellent, too. (Prices are... about the same prices you see at any Thai place anywhere.)
edit: we went back, this time with 4 people, so we got to try some new things. I did confirm my expectations, and that it was not a fluke: service was still great, sausage appetizer was just as fantastic, their pad kee mao ("drunken noodles", according to the menu) was just as basily and just as delicious, the fried rice was still pretty bland. New things we tried: their stir-fry (we had the one with ginger) was also pretty boring, the shrimp cakes were good but not amazing, and the bbq pork (with "crunchy pork" and a different kind of sausage) was super fantastic. So not everything was that impressive, but enough was that I would definitely still come back. (And I know what I would get - the bbq pork, pad ke mao, and at least one order of...
